Miss Mavis Owen former Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor and Director of Nursing worked within the medical profession in the local area and realised there was a distinct lack of equipment available to the District Nurses when caring for patients in their own homes.
A Public Meeting was called and following this FOC was set up with Miss Owen as Chairman.
With hard work and a dedicated Committee ,FOC went from strength to strength.
The aim then as now is to provide Nursing equipment on loan, which would enable patients to be nursed in their own home environment, thus helping to ease their suffering thereby helping their families who care for them .The equipment would be provided in the Tenby and Saundersfoot districts covering and area from Llanteg to Cresselly and Jameston to Amroth .
All equipment supplied would be at the request of the District nurses providing funds were available. The equipment was stored at the Old Tenby Cottage Hospital.
When Health and safety restrictions were introduced the service was modernised with a delivery and collection service operating from the Shape stores in Neyland.
This service means that nurses no longer have to transport equipment to Patient's house's ,it also ensures a safe return after use and a PC inventory which ensures smooth running of the operation.
The NHS initiative to provide more equipment for patient's to be nursed at home has enabled the Charity to be more diverse in these latter years.
Roland Grigg took over as Chairman in 2000 and along with his loyal Committee FOC is still providing Medical Equipment to
the local Community, in the form of AED's and severe haemorrhage packs an initiative that is with the Tenby and Saundersfoot First responders.
First Aid equipment for local schools, organisations and sports teams as well as a Specialist Spika wheelchair and a specialist walking frame.
