Northamptonshire Youth Series

Northamptonshire Youth Series The Northamptonshire Youth Series encourages youth sailors of all abilities to meet up, receive training and compete in a friendly series of races.

The governing charity is the Northamptonshire Schools Sailing and Canoeing Association (NSSCA) This page aims to provide interested parties with event information, results, photos and a place to comment on the series of races. As such any posts are unmoderated and therefore may not express the views or opinion of the committee. There are 5 Sailing Clubs in Northamptonshire eligible for affiliation

Draycote Water SC (Warwickshire) is also an affiliated member club. Affiliated Clubs contribute towards the prize fund. Members of non-Affiliated clubs may race, but will not receive a series prize. NSSCA event format:
0915 Briefing, rigged and ready
0930 Coaching in fleet groups
1215 Lunch
1310 Race briefing
1330 First race followed by a maximum of 2 further races back to back
1700 Prize giving and tea. Home club to arrange prizes and tea. NSSCA will provide medals. Three fleets maximum, if numbers dictate classes can be combined
* Fast handicap (PY < Topper 5.3)
* Topper 5.3
* Slow handicap (PY > Topper 5.3)

NSSCA will award the following overall series trophies:
* Best Overall Sailor – Must be a member of a NSSCA club (Banbury, Cransley,
Draycote Water, Hollowell, Middle Nene, and Northampton sailing clubs).
* Best under 13 Junior Sailor – Must be up to and including 12 years of age, a member of a NSSCA club.
* Best under 16 Sailor - Must be 13, 14 or 15 years of age, a member of a NSSCA club.
* Best under 19 Sailor - Must be 16, 17 or 18 years of age, a member of a NSSCA club.
* Best newcomer – Must be first year attending NYS events. Scored on most races
started, if tied scored on most races completed, if tied scored on overall finishing
position.
* Best Team – the club with the lowest combined points based on top 3
boats from each club at each event. NSSCA will award the following overall series prizes:
* Best Fast fleet sailor – Highest placed sailor from a NSSCA club in fast fleet who has not won any other award.
* Best Topper fleet sailor – Highest placed sailor from a NSSCA club in the topper fleet who has not won any other award.
* Best Slow fleet sailor – Highest placed sailor from a NSSCA club in the slow fleet who has not won any other award. Age categories are based on age at 31st December at the end of the season.

What a fantastic event! The 2026 Northamptonshire Youth Sailing Series kicked off with a bang on Saturday, with 26 boats and sailors on the water. We had four races, executed with precision by our wonderful Race Crew on the committee boat and Safety Crew on the RHIBs.

Shout out to the host club, Northampton Sailing Club and the volunteers who made it all happen!

Another shout out to the series sponsor, FM Sailing, for providing the prizes for our top sailors and their excellent on-water support.

As promised, below is the booking link for the first leg of the Northamptonshire Youth Sailing Series!

The event is limited to 100 boats across the fleets, so sign up as soon as you can. Can’t wait to see everyone out on the water!

This event will be held at Northampton Sailing Club, Pitsford Reservoir, Northampton NN6 9DG (///LODGE.REMOTE.CHARM) on Saturday 18th April 2026 and is open to all classes of boats

Four races, three to count two before lunch and two after

Briefing approximately 09:15am
Rigged and ready to launch for 09:30am
Entry fee is £15 for double handers and £10 for single handers, payable online at time of booking by bank transfer or at the event by cash, credit or debit card
Online entry is required in advance. Please complete the entry and form by 7pm on Thursday 16th April 2026
Lunch will be available - please book them
In advance
Clubhouse, bar, galley changing rooms and showers will be available
Tea and cakes will be ready after racing is finished

The 2026 Northamptonshire Youth Series kicks off on 18th April at Northampton Sailing Club!

For those new to the Series, we welcome young sailors from ages 8-18, sailing Lasers, Toppers, RS Fevas, RS Teras, Optimists, Picos, and Fusions.

Take a look into RYA Eric Twiname Junior Championships. It is a 3 day event May 2-4, being hosted at Rutland Sailing Club.
If you have any questions please get in touch. We’ve had a few sailors go in the past and had a great time. It’s a fantastic opportunity.

Entry’s for the ETs 2026 is now open. Spots fill fast.

As most of you will be aware this event is about education of young sailors who are moving towards competing at national championship level. This is the directive from the ET Trust who support and pay the entry fees.

The event is designed to give young sailors the feel for how multi-class events is run, which may be the precursor to future events, like class national and internationals.
