🚨 The Labour-run council has paid to fix the same stretch of pavement on Front Street TWICE in just a few weeks. 🚨

First, they carried out repairs using asphalt — right in the middle of a conservation area. 🤦‍♂️

Then, after getting it wrong, they had to come back and do the job again properly. That means more disruption, more cost, and more taxpayers’ money wasted. 💸

Residents are constantly told council tax has to rise, but mistakes like this show exactly why people are fed up.

How much did this blunder cost?
And why should residents keep paying more for poor decisions? 🤷‍♂️

Front Street deserves better. Local taxpayers deserve better. ✅

🚨 Weapons seized on Tynemouth Longsands

Northumbria Police say officers recovered a knife and a hammer from a teenager after reports of someone suspected of being armed on the beach.

A 16-year-old was arrested and later released on police bail, with conditions preventing them from visiting the coast.

Our beaches must be safe for families, residents, visitors and local businesses.

Thank you to the officers involved for their quick response.

🔌 Where should new EV chargepoints go in Tynemouth and Marden?

The North East has secured LEVI funding to help install more public electric vehicle chargepoints at a local level.

This could be particularly helpful for residents who do not have a driveway or easy access to off-street parking, including those living in flats, terraces or streets where charging at home is difficult.

Locations are being considered based on things like gaps in current provision, areas with more terraced housing and flats, a good spread across the borough, and places near shops or services where chargepoints may be more commercially viable.

Delivery is expected from summer to early autumn 2026.

🚗⚡ If you think there is a street, car park or local shopping area in Tynemouth and Marden that would benefit from public EV chargepoints, please comment below with your suggestion.

Lewis and Jay will make sure local views are fed in.

📚 Tynemouth Library: six years of delay — residents deserve better

Tynemouth Library closed back in February 2020. More than six years later, residents are still waiting to see real progress on a replacement.

Yes, it is welcome that some of the conditions needed before demolition can begin have now been completed. But let’s be honest: this building has been left as a derelict eyesore in the heart of Tynemouth for far too long.

Councillor Lewis Bartoli is right to say residents will understandably be frustrated. Tynemouth deserves a proper library, community facility and town centre asset — not years of delay, drift and excuses from Labour-run North Tyneside Council.

We sincerely hope this is finally the start of real progress, and that we are not back here in another year with another update showing very little has actually happened.

Tynemouth deserves better.

🏚️ Marden Social Club set for demolition — with council housing “most likely” to follow

Plans have been submitted by North Tyneside Council to demolish the former Marden Social Club on Bavington Gardens.

The building, also known as the Marden Residents Association, is now empty, and council documents say refurbishment is “not cost effective.” The site is also likely to contain asbestos, meaning a survey and specialist removal work would be needed before demolition.

Council papers say the site will “most likely” be used for residential development of council housing, although any future housing scheme would need to come forward separately for approval.

Demolition is expected to begin in October and run through to May 2027.

This is a well-known local site, and residents will understandably want clarity on what comes next — including the design, parking, traffic impact, and how any future development fits into the surrounding area.

The consultation on the demolition application is open on the council planning portal until Friday 5 June.
