We were delighted to be invited to the Health & Wellbeing Innovation Day in Hartlepool, where community groups, charities and local partners came together to share ideas on how we can make our communities healthier, more active and more connected.

It was inspiring to see so many people passionate about improving wellbeing, reducing loneliness, and creating more opportunities for people to come together.

For many members of the Chinese community in the North East, barriers such as language differences, cultural gaps, limited social networks and difficulty accessing information can make it harder to fully take part in local activities and opportunities.

At Chinese Community Connect, we believe building connections matters. Through cultural activities, volunteering and community events, we hope to create spaces where people feel welcome, supported and connected.

We were grateful to bring the perspective of the Chinese community into this conversation and to learn from others who care deeply about strengthening wellbeing across our region.

Thank you to the organisers for bringing everyone together. We look forward to continuing to work with partners across the North East to support wellbeing and stronger connections.

❤️ Community. Culture. Connection.

A Privileged Cultural Experience for CCC Families 🌏

This half term, CCC families had the honour of attending the special exhibition
“Journey of a Century - From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum” at the Oriental Museum, Durham.🏛️

Led by the highly respected curator Dr Qin Cao, the event offered a rare opportunity for members of the Chinese community in the North East to engage deeply with an important part of Chinese cultural heritage within a leading regional museum.

Adults joined a thought-provoking guided tour, while children explored the exhibition through creative gallery activities inspired by the Palace Museum.🎨

Experiences like this strengthen cultural confidence and belonging across generations. They also help build meaningful connections between cultural institutions and local communities, enriching the cultural life of our region as a whole.

We are grateful to have taken part in such a special and enriching event.🤝

Chinese Community Connect at Newcastle Chinese New Year Parade 2026 🥁

What a proud moment for our community!🏮✨

CCC families were delighted to join the Newcastle Mandarin Chinese School parade team. Our children and adults performed traditional Yaogu waist drums and dressed as the zodiac animals as they made their way through the city centre. ⛩️🎶

The rhythm, energy and teamwork on display reflected not only Chinese culture, but also the confidence and spirit of our next generation growing up here in the North East. 🧧

We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate alongside the wider Newcastle community and contribute to such a vibrant city event.

Moments like this remind us that culture brings people together, builds understanding, and creates joy for everyone.

Thank you to all our performers, volunteers and families who made it possible.

🐎✨ Chinese New Year Community Celebration 2026 – Thank You ✨🐎

What a beautiful afternoon we shared together today.

Around 40 community members came together to celebrate the Year of the Horse, supported by a dedicated team of 10 volunteers who helped bring everything to life.

From traditional performances to children’s crafts, shared dishes and warm conversations, the room was filled with laughter, connection and cultural pride.

For many families, gatherings like this are more than celebrations. They are opportunities to feel a sense of belonging, reduce isolation, and build friendships within our local community here in the North East.

We are incredibly grateful to:
• Our volunteers who gave their time and energy
• Organisations and individuals who encouraged and supported us
• Everyone who contributed food and activities
• Every person who joined us and made the day so special

A special thank you to Kilmarnock Road Children and Young Peoples Resource Centre for providing such a welcoming space for our community to gather. We truly appreciate your support.

As a growing community organisation supporting Chinese families across Teesside, Tyne & Wear and the wider North East, events like this remind us why creating inclusive, welcoming spaces matters so much.

If you joined us, thank you for being part of it.
If you couldn’t make it this time, we hope to welcome you at a future event.

🌿 CCC at Catalyst Conference & Awards 2026

Chinese Community Connect was delighted to attend the Catalyst Conference & Awards 2026 yesterday, represented by two of our trustees and one of our members.

Thank you to Catalyst Stockton for bringing together so many organisations and individuals who are working hard to support communities across Stockton-on-Tees. It was a well-organised and inspiring day, with valuable conversations and learning throughout.

Congratulations to all of this year’s award winners, and also to those who were nominated. The dedication, compassion and commitment across our local VCSE sector makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day.

As a community organisation supporting Chinese families across Teesside, Tyne and Wear and the wider North East, it was meaningful for us to be part of the conversation, to listen, learn and connect with others who share a commitment to building inclusive, welcoming communities.

We believe strong communities are built when organisations collaborate, share knowledge and ensure that no group feels isolated or overlooked.

If we met you at the conference, it was a pleasure to connect. If we didn’t get a chance to speak, we’d still love to hear from you.
Let’s keep the conversations going. 💙

We’re looking forward to attending the Catalyst Conference & Awards 2026 on Wednesday 18th February.

It will be great to be in the room with other VCSE organisations from across Stockton, listening, learning and building new connections.

As a volunteer-led community organisation, opportunities like this help us strengthen relationships and stay connected to what’s happening across the local sector.

If you’re attending, please do come and say hello, we’d genuinely love to connect.

See you there.

Durham City will come alive with colour, dancing and music next week to celebrate the Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival.

The city will ring in the Year of the Horse with an exciting line up of family activities and events, to mark the official New Year on 17 February.

Starting on Monday (16 February), Durham Amateur Rowing Club will host a Spring Festival Fireworks Celebration from 5pm.

A series of free events will then be on offer across the city centre on Saturday (21 February), for all ages to enjoy, organised by us and our partners, including Durham University , Durham Markets and Durham BID .

From 10.30am until 3.30pm, children can drop into Clayport Library to create their own lanterns and horse-themed paper crafts. Families can also enjoy drop-in language and calligraphy taster sessions with Durham University.

At 12.30pm, the traditional Lion Dance will make its way through the Market Place and city centre, with the Mayor hoping to catch the lucky lettuce to bring good luck to the city for the coming year.

From 1pm until 3pm, families with children aged between five and 11 can visit the Oriental Museum for free and make some decorations for the museum’s Year of the Horse celebration later this month.

Finally, from 2pm until 4pm, visitors can enjoy a performance of music, song and dance at Durham Town Hall as members of the Chinese Scholars and Students Association, the Han Fu Society and Durham Chinese School will take part in a music, dance and costume show, introducing traditional Chinese costumes and instruments.

Cllr Karen Allison, Cabinet member for leisure, tourism and high street, said: “We can’t wait to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Horse next weekend. The horse symbolises energy, opportunity and social activity which will be on offer in abundance across the city centre.

“Alongside a host of free activities, visitors can experience different cultures and traditions, create their own crafts and come together to celebrate and experience an incredibly warm welcome to Durham.”

A full programme of events can be found at www.thisisdurham.com/chinese
