Going Green Together Supporting the North East's VCSE sector towards Net Zero

20/04/2026

We're looking forward to being part of Community Foundation North East's Environmental Action Conference tomorrow.

The Going Green team will be presenting in the afternoon and hosting a stall throughout the day, so come along and say hi - we'd love to chat!

We're pleased to be sharing the stage with so many VCSE organisations and sector leaders - a day to be rejuvenated and connect all the great work being done in our region.

We partner with a host of remarkable charities and organisations to develop and deliver Going Green Together.

One of these is Cumbria CVS.

We are looking at ways in which VCSE organisations in other regions could have access to environmental support, similar to our programme. We are working with Cumbria CVS on this development and research. Together, we are delivering a range of resources and opportunities aimed at supporting Cumbrian VCSE organisations to make environmental change.

We're happy to be launching regular Peer Support Time for all our participants in Going Green Together.

This space is for:

- building connection, confidence and knowledge
- hearing the experience of other organisations at the same stage
- sharing challenges, wins and learning

This month, our focus will be on engaging our teams, community and trustees. Delving into how we can plan and take environmental action in a way that reflects our community and team priorities.

Well done Durham Community Action!

We are delighted to announce that we have successfully achieved the Investors in the Environment (iiE) Silver Award following two successful years of achieving Bronze. This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental impact and embedding sustainable practices across our organisation.

Over the past year, we have continued to take positive steps to improve our environmental performance. From reducing waste and increasing recycling to making more energy-efficient choices, we are proud of the progress we have made. We are also proud to support other organisations as they move forward in their sustainability journey.

Thanks to Sunderland Voluntary Sector Alliance for inviting us along to their Volunteering Network Meeting this week.

There was really interesting insight and into how volunteering and sustainability can go hand in hand, the untapped opportunities available and the potential of volunteer support when we champion environmental car in our organisations.

The Going Green Team presented the opportunities we offer to VCSE organisations and how volunteers can play a vital role in enhancing this effort, providing additional insight, team capacity and often expertise to efforts to reduce their environmental impact.

Great to see many Sunderland based voluntary organisations and of course Durham Wildlife Trust, eager to continue this work!

Needing some community inspiration this grey January day?

We thought we'd share a podcast that has got us thinking about the potential in all our communities. We've enjoyed hearing about how community groups are taking on the difficulties in their neighbourhoods and making change... all whilst becoming climate resilient.

Happy New Year from the Going Green Together Team!

After the launch of Phase 2 of Going Green Together in 2025, we are excited for what is in store for the project and our participants in 2026.

Our participants are now well on their way with our free support and access to our Sustainability Pathway. Whilst our new cohort of North East organisations are taking on the iiE accreditation and action plan with Genee and understanding their carbon impacts with SmartCarbon.

We are in the midst of planning workshops and peer support events throughout 2026 and cannot wait to share these with you.

OASES is proud to announce that we have been awarded our Green Investors in the Environment (iiE) Accreditation for the second year running. Our auditor had this to say:🥳

OASES is striving to do even more, but we’re really pleased that we’ve made such good progress already. Thanks to Investors in the Environment and Genee for your help with the accreditation. 🌿
