NFBUK Nottingham

NFBUK Nottingham A local group campaigning on issues affecting blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people. Not a service provider.

We are a local group of blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people from across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and exist to champion access and equality across the city ensuring that people living with sight loss can enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else. We campaign on local and national issues affecting blind, partially sighted and deaf-blind people, and sit on decision-making committ

ees and consultation groups to represent the views of people living with sight loss to local government, health and social care providers and sometimes National Government. Our recent campaigns have included involvement in discussions regarding the refurbishment of Nottingham Train Station, development of the 2nd and 3rd tram lines, access to information, the reform of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) into Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and much more. We meet once a month on a Tuesday evening, 7-9pm at a central, accessible venue in Nottingham. Some of our members meet beforehand or after the meeting for some social time over a drink or two, giving a much needed opportunity for some friendship and general chat. We organise occasional social events for members, such as a Christmas meal, allowing us to come together and enjoy ourselves and celebrate our achievements. The Nottingham Branch is part of the overall National Federation of the Blind UK (NFBUK) and membership subscriptions are set by the national organisation. Members receive national newsletters as well as copies of all branch correspondence, minutes etc as well as an opportunity to have input into our work. For further information, please contact us and we will be happy to send you our leaflet and explain more.
