🏆 A NIGHT TO REMEMBER — SAMEE AWARDS 2026 🏆
A proud moment for UNISON Scottish Black Members Committee, honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Inclusion and Workplace Diversity Award.
This recognition belongs to a committee that has refused to accept racism as simply “the way things are.”
Our approach has been simple:
Not statements — action.
Not visibility — participation.
Not intention — impact.
We have turned words into practical action:
🔹 4 major surveys capturing the experiences of Black members
🔹 100+ activists identified, developed and empowered
🔹 More members supported to challenge workplace racism
🔹 Building collective confidence, leadership and a stronger voice for change
Racism is real.
It exists in our workplaces, institutions and systems — and we must have the courage to confront it.
We cannot mistake polished statements, campaigns and social media posts for progress. Inclusion must be measured by what changes in people's everyday working lives.
Our committee has become a force for change because we have challenged gatekeeping, opened doors, developed activists and refused to accept the status quo.
Huge congratulations to SAMEE for creating a platform that celebrates achievement while challenging us to go further.
And a special tribute to Dr Jason Arday, remembered at the beginning of the evening with a moving minute’s silence.
This award is a recognition of progress — not permission to stop.
There is still work to do.
We will continue to ask difficult questions, challenge racism, develop leaders, shift systems and turn intent into impact.

The movement continues.**
