We would like to say a huge thank you to the Owens Family for raising a fantastic Β£31,700 for Evora Hospice!

The money was raised through the Coast to Coast Charity Cycling event which took place on the 23rd August and saw 17 people cycle from the east to the west coast starting in Warrenpoint and finishing in Sligo,

This event was held in memory of Lisa Owens, a dearly loved wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend who passed last year in September 2024,

In their own words the family would like to say the following:
"The Owens family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the members of the Armagh Down Cycling Club for all their support in organising and running the Coast to Coast Charity Cycling Event.

We would also like to sincerely thank the sponsors of the cycling jersey:

Sure Freight Β· Convery Ceilings Β· Comiskey Motors Β· Gig Grafter Β· Ian Mallon Solicitors Β· Kellihers Electrical Β· Cushman & Wakefield Β· Owens Joinery

A special thank you to Watters Electrical for the use of their van, and to McAnulty’s Yellow Line Coaches for their support with transport.

We are also so grateful to all the local businesses for their generous contributions, and to everyone who donated or helped in any way to make this event such a success.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, between the Coast to Coast Cycle and the Coffee Morning, we raised a total of Β£38,800. This incredible amount will help ensure that other families like ours continue to have access to the same exceptional care, compassion, and comfort that carried us through.

A massive thank you to all β€” we couldn’t have done it without you."

Thank you to the Owens Family and all those who showed their support through donating!

What an epic day! Done and dusted, 150 miles (242 kilometers), 8 hours and 45 mins moving time, and over 1,400 metres of climbing. We packed a lot into 1 day!

The day started off in Costa del Warrenpoint where it was 18Β°c at 5.40am in the morning, spirits were very high, and the wind was low and coming mainly from the east. It wasn't to last.

As we headed out through Newry, along the bottom of Camlough lake and into Lislea, the low cloud and 'mizzle' started. This turned into on and off rain which stayed with us for near 100 miles.

Food stops in Ballybay and Ballinamore gave us some relief, and a chance to dry off and get jackets on. A huge thanks to Brendan Rooney for driving our support van (kindly provided by Paul Watters Electrical Limited) - it was a great help.

Our route master, Adrian Fegan, nailed it. If you ever fancy a spin to Enniscrone, you'll struggle to find better roads and scenery if you copy his route.

By the time we got to Sligo we'd hit 7 counties, including a few hundred yards in Fermanagh. Despite the wet weather, it was warm, and the craic in the group was good. Without naming names any bunch cycling together for this distance needs a few eejits and messers to lighten the mood from time to time, and we had our fair share of them 😜.

Colooney in County Sligo was the first proper chance to dry off, when you're cycling you don't just get wet from the top down, but also from the bottom up, and there were a few lads suffering from near trench foot like symptoms!

The temperature started to rise from Colooney to Ballisadare, and onto the Wild Atlantic Way. We took the stunning coast road towards Enniscrone where the majority our group hit record lifetime mileages, not bad for some lads who've been cycling for over 15 years.

The roll into Enniscrone and out to the Atlantic was magic, and we got a great welcome from Lisa and Peadar Owens daughters, Hannah and Emma.

The big plans to go out and paint the town red didn't really materialise, as the miles caught up with the lads. Dinner was followed by yawns, eye rubbing and thousand yard stares....but it didn't matter, it was all about Evora Hospice, honouring Lisa Owens, the cycle and memories made for life.

Our other Brendan that gave us a dig out when we needed it was Brendan Fegan, he drove from Newry and back on Sunday on the bus kindly donated by Yellow Line Coaches. Thanks Brendan.

The donations continue to come in and we're all blown away by people's generosity. The cycle has definitely grabbed people's attention, but the donations also show the high esteem in which Lisa and the Owens family are held in the community and further afield.

Our donations page will remain opened, and stay tuned for the total raised and our presentation to Evora Hospice (formerly Southern Area Hospice).
