🚨 Flooding Update – Newry & Mourne Area 🚨

Newry & Mourne Search and Rescue are aware of flooding across a number of local areas due to ongoing weather conditions.

Our team remains on call and ready to assist where required, including flood water rescue, should the need arise.

⚠️ Public Safety Advice – Please Read ⚠️
To help keep yourself and others safe during flooding, please remember:

β€’ Do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water – it may be deeper than it appears
β€’ Avoid fast-flowing water – even shallow water can knock you off your feet
β€’ Never enter flood water unless it is absolutely necessary
β€’ Keep children and pets well away from flooded areas
β€’ If your vehicle becomes stranded, stay with it and call for help if safe to do so

If you are in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the appropriate emergency service.

Please continue to monitor local updates and take care during this period.
Stay safe. πŸ’›

🚨 We Need Your Support 🚨

Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue is actively fundraising to purchase a small water craft to enhance our operational capabilities on the water.

This vital piece of equipment will be used to support dive and search operations, allow more volunteers to be deployed on the water at any one time, and enable access to shallower, smaller, and more inaccessible water areas that are currently difficult to reach.

We are seeking to raise Β£3,500 to assist in the purchase of this vessel. Every donation, no matter the size, will directly support our lifesaving work and help us continue to serve our community when it needs us most. πŸ’™

πŸ“’ Important Update πŸ“’

As we move into 2026, Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue will be undertaking an organisational restructuring. As part of this process, our operational name will change due to circumstances outside of our control.

We want to reassure the public that our operations will not be affected. We remain the same people, with the same commitment, training, and dedication, and we will continue to be on call wherever and whenever needed.

This step allows us to move forward responsibly and ensures the continued delivery of our search and rescue service to the community.

We are deeply saddened to learn that the body of Mr Andrew Robinson has today been recovered from the River Bann in Portadown by members of Meath River Rescue.

Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue assisted in this search, mobilising our dive team to the scene. Today marks 42 days since Andrew’s disappearance.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ruth and her family at this incredibly difficult time. We hope they find some comfort in knowing that every effort was made to bring Andrew home.

We would like to sincerely thank all agencies involved in the search, particularly Lough Neagh Rescue Search & Rescue Dog Association - SARDA Ireland North Community Rescue Service Southern District and many others and as well as the members of the public who gave their time and support throughout the search efforts.

May Andrew rest in peace. πŸ•ŠοΈ

πŸŽ„ A Message from Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue πŸŽ„

As 2025 draws to a close, we take time to reflect on the year that was β€” a year of highs and lows, challenges and successes, and above all, community, compassion, and commitment.

Throughout the year, our volunteers responded to calls for help across the region, carrying out numerous missions in all conditions and at all hours. Each task reminded us why we do what we do: to be there for people when they need us most. Behind every call-out were individuals and families supported, and every mission was made possible by teamwork, training, and dedication.

At this time of year, we also pause to remember and reflect on those who are no longer with us. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and loved ones, and with anyone for whom this season may be a difficult one.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who played a part in 2025 β€” our incredible volunteers who give their time selflessly, our partner agencies who work alongside us, and the members of the public and supporters who offered assistance, kind words, donations, and encouragement. Your support truly makes a difference.

As the festive season approaches, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe, peaceful, and prosperous New Year. Please take care over the holidays, look out for one another, and remember that we remain on call wherever and whenever needed.

Thank you for standing with us throughout 2025.
Here’s to a safe and hopeful year ahead. πŸŽ„βœ¨

πŸ“’ Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue – Statement

Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue remains in ongoing contact with partner agencies regarding the search for missing person Mr. Andrew Robinson. We continue to stay on call and ready to respond whenever we are needed.

Recent conditions on the water have made diving extremely difficult and unsafe, with fast-moving currents and very poor clarity limiting the ability to carry out effective underwater operations.

If you have any information that may assist in locating Mr. Robinson, please contact the Police or ourselves immediately.

Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends during this difficult time.

πŸ“’ Newry & Mourne Search & Rescue – Day 9 Update

There are no major updates to report from today’s search.

Our operations concluded at 3:15pm. Rising water levels from the rainfall, increasing water speed, and extremely poor visibility made diving conditions very challenging. At times, underwater visibility ranged from 0–30cm, with divers unable to see their own hands in front of them.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the agencies who attended today, as well as to every diver and volunteer who worked tirelessly in such difficult conditions.

A massive shout out also goes to the incredible people who kept everyone warm and fed with tea, coffee, and stew. In cold and wet weather, this kind of support is a huge morale booster and deeply appreciated.

The search will continue throughout the week, with relevant agencies being notified as plans progress.

Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends.
