As we come to the end of National Volunteers’ Week, it is only fitting to acknowledge this wonderful group of people — our Group 67 carers. 💚

Your time, dedication, compassion, and unwavering support make such a difference to the lives of so many young people.

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”

We volunteer because we believe in the importance of connection and the power of people helping people. Through your kindness, encouragement, and commitment, you help create experiences, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime.

To our Group 67 carers, past and present, and to those who may no longer travel with us — thank you for everything you do and have done.

Without you, Group 67 would not be what it is today. 💚

A busy and productive weekend for our group member, Eadaoin McAnulty, in her role as a Trustee.

Eadaoin attended the Trust’s Annual General Meeting, where trustees came together to review progress and plan for the future. Key outcomes included:
• Formation of subcommittees to develop a three-year strategic plan focused on guests, carers, finance, and fundraising.

• Election of Officers with Eadaoin being appointed as Safeguarding Officer.

The AGM also marked the end of David Whitty’s term as Chair. Group 67 wish to express their gratitude for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to the Trust’s development and rebranding over recent years.

Congratulations to all those elected, particularly the new Chair, Caitriona Cannon, we look forward to working with you Caitriona!

Best wishes to the entire team as they continue their important work in supporting guests, carers, and pilgrims.

Please take time to have a little read and complete the jotterform. (Being mindful this is very much in the exploration stages!)

Let’s find out about the plans/ interest behind “YAWN”

Hi everyone, my name is Rory Casey. I’m a 22-year-old Registered Nurse with 7/8 years experience volunteering with organisations such as Down Right Brilliant and Rise and Shine Group 67, supporting children and young adults with additional needs.

I’m currently exploring the idea of starting a social group called YAWN (Young Adults With Needs) Social Club for young adults aged 18–30 with additional needs, including physical, visual, learning and social needs.

I feel there aren’t enough opportunities locally in Newry for young adults with additional needs once school finishes, and I’d love to create a safe, social space where friendships, confidence and new skills can grow.

The idea would be an 8-week block running one evening a week (likely Tuesday or Thursday) for 2–3 hours in a local community centre, hopefully starting around July/August. Each week would have a different theme or activity such as cooking, sports, art, reading/writing, and possibly short accredited courses like road or fire safety.

Initially, I’d hope to start with around 10–15 young adults as a trial run, with the aim of growing it further if there’s enough interest and it proves manageable.

The group would require volunteers, fundraising support and possibly a small membership fee, so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, is this something your young adult would enjoy? I’m also open to any suggestions for activities or ideas you’d like to see included.

Thanks Rory!
