National Dog Day is a joyful celebration of the unconditional love, loyalty and happiness dogs bring into our lives. They’re not just pets—they’re cherished family members, trusted companions and forever part of our hearts. 🐶❤️

Today, we’re also celebrating the incredible moment when a lost dog is found and safely reunited with the family who loves and misses them. 🏡🐾

There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing a beloved dog return home, turning days of worry into tears of joy, wagging tails and endless cuddles. These precious reunions remind us of the unbreakable bond between dogs and their families. 🎉💖

We’re especially delighted to see Muffin making wonderful progress on his journey back to health, now safely home and surrounded by his loving family. His story is a beautiful reminder that, even after the hardest days, hope, love and happiness can shine through. 🐾❤️

Canine First Aid Course 🐾

There are just 2 places left at our first aid course at an introductory offer of £30. Its is at Binstead Community Hall from 10am till 1pm this Sunday 16th August.

Please call us to book on 522511 from 10am.

The next course will be at St Margaret’s Community Hall Lowtherville Road Ventnor from 10am till 1pm on Sunday 20th September. The hall does have disabled access and parking. This will be £40 per person.

Our classes are small for a more personal experience. 😊🐾

🌘 Solar Eclipse – A Little Reminder for Our Sensitive Dogs 🐾

With the solar eclipse tonight, some dogs may be more sensitive to the changes in their environment.

This can be particularly relevant for nervous, sensitive and overseas rescue dogs, who may be more aware of changes in light, atmosphere, routine or their surroundings.

You may notice your dog becoming quieter, unsettled, wanting more reassurance, seeking somewhere safe or choosing to stay indoors.

🐾 Let them decide where they feel most comfortable
🐾 Keep their environment calm and familiar
🐾 Make sure doors, gates and gardens are secure
🐾 Give them space if they seek it — or reassurance if they ask for it
🐾 Don’t encourage them outside if they would rather stay in

Some dogs won’t be bothered at all, and that’s absolutely fine too. Observe your dog, listen to what they’re communicating and let them guide you. 🐾❤

A huge shout-out to Michaela and her search dog, Spritz, following the search for Muffin! 🐾❤️

Michaela and Spritz completed all their qualifications with Caz at Pawsitive IOW which takes a huge amount of time, dedication and commitment to reach the required standards. They then joined our team at Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW.

Muffin was their first live search, and what followed was an unexpectedly prolonged, complex and challenging operation.

When lost dogs are in survival mode, we don’t use our search dogs to track directly to them, as this can make them feel hunted and cause them to run further. Instead, our search dogs detect the lost dog’s scent, allowing us to establish an area where we can carry out calm, no-pressure observations. This helps us understand the dog’s behaviour and plan the safest and most effective capture strategy.

The extreme heat made this search even more challenging. Dry ground and high temperatures cause scent to disappear and evaporate quickly, while farming activity such as harvesting can also affect scent conditions. Search dogs also cannot safely work in extreme heat, so Michaela and Spritz worked at very unsociable hours when Muffin was unlikely to be active, ensuring he wasn’t placed under unnecessary pressure.

Spritz was spot on every single time with her findings. An incredible achievement, especially as even highly experienced search dogs would have found this particular search extremely demanding.

Michaela and Spritz showed incredible dedication throughout and became a hugely valuable part of the team. The information they provided played an important role in helping us safely recover Muffin. ❤️

🚨 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH — DOG OWNERS, PLEASE READ THIS. 🚨

Yet again, Denise’s sheep at Carisbrooke Castle have been attacked by a dog.

This is now the FOURTH dog attack in the space of a year.

Tragically, just last week one of her sheep had to be put to sleep because the injuries it suffered in a dog attack were so horrific. 💔

And now this.

Look at the photo. This is the reality of what happens when dogs are allowed to attack or worry livestock. These are living, feeling animals being left injured, terrified and traumatised.

Denise should NOT have to keep dealing with this.

🚔 The Police are now involved and are investigating these dog attacks.

This has gone far beyond simply asking people to be more responsible.

If you are walking anywhere around Carisbrooke Castle, or anywhere livestock is present, PUT YOUR DOG ON A LEAD.

We don't care if your dog has brilliant recall. We don't care if they're normally friendly. We don't care if they've walked past sheep a hundred times before without reacting.

It only takes ONE time.

And please don't dismiss chasing as harmless either. A dog doesn't necessarily have to physically attack a sheep to cause devastating injuries or distress.

Four attacks in a year.
One sheep already dead as a result.
Another now injured.
And a Police investigation underway.

How many more animals have to suffer before people understand?

🐑 KEEP YOUR DOGS ON LEADS AROUND LIVESTOCK. 🐑

There really is NO excuse.

Hi everyone
We know so many people have been invested in the search for Muffin so here is a video summing up Muffins story.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped us safely recover Muffin. Sincere apologies if we have accidentally missed anyone as the support and help has been incredible over the last nearly 2 months.

Firstly Muffins owners, family and friends who have been on the emotional rollercoaster for over 7 long weeks. Incredible how they have coped and have done everything they possibly could to help their gorgeous boy Muffin home.

Friends of the Animals who helped arrange the appointment at the vets when Muffin was captured and Scampy the drone worked so hard helping Muffin home.

The people's vet who have looked after Muffin with such love and care. During the search they were so accommodating in enabling us to use their facilities to take off and land our drones as needed.

All the land owners who allowed us access and time to capture Muffin especially Farmer Phil Morris,
The farmers at Hill farm, Gatcombe Estate, Ryan and staff at the The Trail hounds kennels, Little Gatcombe Farm and Rev Steve at St O'laves church. Everyone so patient and kind to help Muffin get home.

All the residents of Gatcombe who have been so supportive. Special thanks to Debbie & Nigel who confirmed a sighting that we were indeed in the right area for Muffin and helping to keep things so peaceful for him he wasn't scared to run again.

The staff of Carisbrooke castle for keeping a look out ( yes he did go that far a couple of times and even a quick trip up and onto the Tennyson trail ) and making sure posters were around encouraging sightings. Soi dog Olympic adventures for allowing us to use your field and the owners of Windmill Campsite for all your help.

To all the admin of the pages and the Island press that have allowed us to share Muffins posters and story that helped get the sightings to enable his capture.

Our own volunteers who put in 100's of hours, day and night. Every decision made at all times in Muffins best interests and never giving up. Special thanks to Wight Drone for your incredible skills helping us identify the pathways Muffin was using.

We can't help our islands lost dogs home without our incredible island community. Thanks as always for being there, supporting us in every way that you do 😘❤️

Great news update ❤️❤️❤️

After more than 7 weeks since his escape, we are delighted to confirm that two of our team successfully executed a planned trapping operation yesterday, resulting in the safe capture of Muffin.

With the agreement of his owners, one of whom is currently and unavoidably out of the country, Muffin has been taken for a 48 hour period of assessment and decompression by one of our volunteers (who has over 30 years professional animal welfare experience) which will include a visit to the vets for a full check up and any necessary treatment.

We appreciate the very significant level of public interest in this rescue and, as such, we will of course release a more comprehensive account in the next 2/3 days. Until then, we are sure that you will all share our overwhelming sense of joy and relief that Muffin is now safe and sound after his time away from home.

This little one is safely on her way home ❤️
Millie did so so well to not panic so this little one didn't run further away.
We had 2 ground searchers go over to assist Millie secure her as little edie was so nervous of the surroundings she wasn't familiar with.
Hopefully now Millie will also be able to get a bit of a rest after a bit of a scare.
You should be proud of how calm you were Mille 🙌🏻🥰###
