Here’s a quick look back at one of our success stories from Get Gigging!

Duno were in our first round of Get Gigging and did 3 workshops with Sam from Finding Aurora! They played for the first time together at the Get Gigging big show and have done loads of shows since - including a headline show at Fuel, in Cardiff which they sold out!

Get Gigging has helped and aims to help more young musicians and bands like Duno in the future - we wish Duno all the best as they continue their journey as artists in the future too!

Roedd Duno yn rhan o'n rownd gyntaf o Get Gigging ac fe wnaethant gymryd rhan mewn 3 gweithdy gyda Sam o Finding Aurora! Fe wnaethant berfformio gyda'i gilydd am y tro cyntaf yn sioe fawr Get Gigging, ac ers hynny maent wedi chwarae mewn llu o sioeau – gan gynnwys sioe benawdol yn Fuel yng Nghaerdydd, a werthodd allan yn llwyr!

Mae Get Gigging wedi helpu, ac yn anelu at helpu, mwy o gerddorion a bandiau ifanc fel Duno yn y dyfodol. Dymunwn y gorau oll i Duno wrth iddynt barhau â'u taith fel artistiaid yn y blynyddoedd i ddod hefyd!

Sonic Scrap is back!

As part of the Gŵyl Newydd happening at Rodney Parade on Saturday, Sonic Scrap will be returning! We also have a performance from the amazing Alicia Wiseman too!

Gŵyl Newydd is Newport’s Welsh-language arts and cultural festival. This year, the 7th annual festival takes place at Rodney Parade, Newport on Saturday 13th of June from 11am to 5pm.

This is a whole family festival providing an opportunity to hear and use Welsh in a fun environment while enjoying music, crafts, stalls, workshops and celebrating our Welshness in the city. Last year, the event was attended by over 500 people.

Sonic Scrap is back!

As part of the Gŵyl Newydd happening in The Riverfront Saturday Sonic Scrap will be returning! We also have a performance from the amazing Alicia Wiseman too!

As it is Pride month, we continue to post to celebrate and what better way than sharing some famous and successful people who were from Newport and are part of/helped the LGBTQ+ community!

1- Tayce
most famous for coming 2nd on Ru Paul’s drag race series 2

Has had a successful career as a drag artist, model, radio presenter (bbc radio 1) and rapper

2-  Evan Morgan (2nd Viscount of Tredegar)

Was an aristocrat who lived in Tredegar House. His money and aristocratic lifestyle meant he was able to live as a gay man at a time where it was otherwise illegal. 

3-  Martyn Butler

co-founded the Terrence Higgins Trust and pioneer in the fight against HIV/AIDS

4-  Debbie Wilcox

Originally a teacher, now a politician who openly opposed anti-LGBT Section 28. She was then the first female leader of Newport Council.

5 - Viscountess Rhondda (aka Margaret Mackworth) 

a Welsh peeress, businesswoman, magazine proprietor, and suffragette who was raised in Newport.

As this month is Pride Month, over the upcoming weeks we will be sharing some posts to celebrate 🏳️‍🌈

For our first post we have a video about growing up with 2 mums by our very own Charlie who does our marketing here!

Shot for BBC Sesh back in 2021, Charlie explained what it was like growing up with 2 Mothers, the process of In vitro fertilisation (IVF) and more! If you, or someone you know is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and are thinking of starting a family this could be a useful piece of media for you!

The original video has been viewed over 1 million times on Facebook and shared across the world, the full video is available on the BBC Sesh page (search “2 Mums BBC Sesh”) or the link will be available in our bio too!

Ever wondered what our young participants got out of Get Gigging? Here’s some more testimonials from young people who got involved!

Get Gigging has been very useful for the young musicians who have taken part in the series. They have gotten more gigs, radio plays, improved their applications for university and even met new friends along the way 🙂

A huge thank you to all of our staff who got involved and helped run the sessions and all of the young people who turned up and got involved - it wouldn’t be possible without you!

Christmas Sonic Singalong!

Thank you to everyone who came down this Saturday for our last Sonic Singalong - it was so amazing to see so many of you there getting involved with the festive activities!

A massive thank you to for hosting the session and Newport Museum and Art Gallery for letting us use such a beautiful space!

We will have more Sonic Singalongs in the new year so stay tuned for those too!
