Our charity, Whickham Volunteer Library Association, was formed in 2017 to keep the library open in the village. We are responsible for all of the day to day running costs, with Gateshead Library services providing the library's books.

Thanks to the ongoing work of a dedicated team of supporters we have managed to raise funds to make the building more energy efficient, with the installation of led lights and cavity wall insulation. Our latest development, thanks to a grant from the Pride in Place programme through Gateshead Council, which the library match-funded, has seen the main library transformed into a much more flexible and welcoming space for community use, whilst keeping the character of the library.

We are always looking to improve and add to what we can offer, while also working to ensure we raise sufficient money throughout the year to keep the library open. There are various ways in which people and local organisations can help, if you would like know more please talk to one of our volunteers or visit our website https://www.whickhamlibrary.com/

The photo is of our Open Evening last Thursday, busy and well attended, including by the Deputy Mayor, Deputy Consort, and local councillors.

We're gonna need a bigger room!

We held our annual fundraiser last night at the Glebe Sports and Social Club, and had an amazing turnout - the place was packed. We had an even bigger crowd of supporters than at our last quiz night, and anyone who was there will remember how much of a squeeze that was.

Many thanks to all the attendees, who were very generous, meaning we raised more than ever, and who we hope had a brilliant night. And thanks most of all to our excellent and entertaining Quiz Master, David Richardson, who put together a fun-packed and challenging series of quiz rounds.

Well done to the Quizzy Quizzlers, the team which topped the score board.

We'll be doing this again, and maybe even bigger next time.

WE'RE OPEN!

As promised, today is our grand re-opening. Come along and see what we've achieved with the help of the Pride in Place grant from Gateshead Council. The transformation has to be seen to be believed.

It's been a slog, but we've achieved so much. We're grateful for everyone's patience while we've been closed, and look forward to seeing our lovely library users back now.
