Eleven
So much time has passed
Since we saw you last
Hard to believe it is eleven years
Since we shed all those tears
You didn’t know how many people cared
If only you’d realised how much was shared
Your friends , your family , all who knew
You’ve affected so many made them feel blue
You’ve even impacted on those you didn’t know
Susanna is one and has become a beacon to show
How much your life meant to others who are feeling low
She has dedicated her time to find ing answers why
So many people sadly like you choose to die
She is searching for solutions to try and reduce the flow
Of young people who feel depressed and choose to go
She is trying to find ways to stem the tide
To prevent those that have negative feelings they try to hide
I’m proud of you son for what you have started
In the eleven years since you departed
You have sparked a movement that may help to save lives
To prevent fathers mothers brothers sisters husbands and wife’s
From feeling the despair the loss the grief when your gone
And even if Susanna and Dan save only one
I will feel your up there guiding the way
Helping to make sense of your loss as I reflect on another day
Eleven years Son you would have been thirty three
Such a waste if only you’d stopped to think what could be
I hope Susanna and Dan can prevent others from doing the same
It would be of some comfort knowing they did and it was started in your name
Rest in peace my Son

Hi LBF members , I attended a seminar today which was hosted by a mental health charity called MANUP. The in-depth talk was carried out by Susanna Bennett who our foundation supported through her PhD which she has now taken it on the road and is passing on her knowledge of the subject , su***de in young men , to audiences across the country. This seminar in Newcastle was attended by 100 people , many of which were consultants , researchers, and members of other organisations that would spread the conversation of this topic to others , LBF got a special mention in the introduction for supporting Susanna when no-one else would and now she is speaking to audiences on a weekly basis , her message is clear and succinct and we are proud and delighted that we have helped in a small way to kick start her journey, our funds collected and donated by you all is now been rewarded by hundreds of key people listening and taking notice of Susanna’s work. MANUP is becoming a major force in this difficult field of mental health , depression and su***de , it has the support of major stars like actor Stephen Graham and others
Thank you to ALL LBF supporters that donated to our foundation and helped to set in motion this great movement which is happening in MANUP

CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S 10 YEARS
Hard to believe that ten years have flown by
Since Liam left us and is up there in the sky
It doesn’t seem that long ago
That we were on holiday in Glencoe
I was up there earlier this year sitting on Liams Hill
Thinking to myself what a bitter pill
Looking across the water at the village of Kinlocleven
And wishing Liam was beside me instead of being in heaven
I have some wonderful memories of that week in May
With Liam and Alex climbing and cycling every day
I was hoping to turn it into an annual event
Being together and enjoying the time spent
We never got to have another holiday together
I didn’t know that trip had to last me forever
Liam was happy he enjoyed that week
I still can’t believe this was the same year of which I speak
In January that year I’d just bought him a new van
He was so pleased I really thought he was a happy young man
His 22nd birthday was another wonderful memory of time spent
Thanks to Gerry for my last photo with him on that joyous event
His childhood was full of wonderful memories of things we had done
We did so many things together and had so much fun
It’s just so hard to believe so sad such a bitter pill
I left a message on the rock that we sat on Liams Hill
A warning to others that you just don’t know what’s going on in someone’s mind
A reminder to be vigilant and try always to be kind
That kind word or gesture may be all that it needs
To prevent someone from carrying out their intended deed
We set up a foundation a charity in Liams name
To try and create awareness and prevent others doing the same
So ten years have passed and here I am reflecting once more
Of that fateful day when the police came and knocked on the door
To tell me that my son is not here anymore
Ten years have passed but that day has made time stand still
So I prefer to remember him with me and Alex sitting on Liams Hill

Black Friday
It is here again the day they call Black Friday
An appropriate name in every way
Ten years ago Liam chose this day to depart
Ten years ago Liam chose to break my heart
I know he didn’t mean to do this
I know he was suffering from a mental illness
I never knew how he suffered and felt so bad
I should have known though because I’m his dad
If only I’d known just how bad he felt
We’d got the doctor and I thought she’d help
We didn’t know he’d made up his mind and couldn’t stay
He had to do it and he chose to leave us on that day
I know he didn’t know the press had named it so
That he had coincided with such a fateful name
The memory of his passing will always be the same
Every year it comes round I will always think and say
This is the day Liam chose to leave us , it is and was Black Friday
