Royal International Air Tattoo - RAF Fairford 2025
Our third spotlight on specialist teams at RIAT 2025 is the Communications Team. The Communications Team is the beating heart of the entire operation, passing messages and relaying information to every flight on taskings, off duty or on standby.
In addition, they manage the communications between the various Support Pillar Teams, operating across 9 Direct channels. This critical function allows the fast processing on information to all parts of the operation including Tasking, Discip, Campsite, Logistics, MT Transport, First Aid and Wellbeing Teams.
FS Jessica O’Mahoney from 2510 West Denton Squadron RAFAC is part of the RIAT RAFAC Communications team this year.
As part of the communications team, cadets are tasked with helping create and maintain a secure network for the air cadets as they go about their duties on both the showground and campground. This includes the set up of all radio equipment, IT equipment, as well as the erecting of 3 Radio masts and managing the issuing of radio equipment and overnight charging.
Based on the cadet campsite, there is a constant flow of messages that need to be monitored, logged and transmitted onwards. Even though there is a busy schedule you do get breaks and time off so you can look around the show ground, see the aircraft and meet the aircrew from various countries.
This team requires a lot of organisational skills so if you have them and enjoy a challenge, and want to be part of one of the coolest teams on the camp, then apply for this team next year.
