Johnny Doherty CCE

Johnny Doherty CCE Branch of Comhaltas formed in 1979. Johnny Doherty CCE, named after a renowned Donegal fiddler, was formed in the Holy Ghost Fathers Hall in Carfin in 1979.

Over the years, our classes have moved around the neighbouring villages of Newarthill, Holytown and for the last few years New Stevenston where we have been in Taylor High School. We have a music class, session, and an Irish language class from 7.30pm until 10pm on a Wednesday evening during school terms.

This year, our 2025 Wheels and Jigs cycle is dedicated to the memory of our friend and musician, Eamonn Nugent.

Eamonn was a gifted musician, best known for his masterful bodhrán playing. With his incredible talent and infectious energy, he brought traditional Irish music to life, performing in countless pubs, venues, and festivals across Ireland and beyond. He was always the heart and soul of the party.

For us, Eamonn was a familiar, welcoming face at the end of our cycle into Miltown Malbay—always there with a big smile, that Glasgow accent, and just ready for a few tunes! 👌🏻✨

Eamonn passed away far too soon, on 30th October 2024, at just 31 years old, after a brave and dignified battle with a brain tumour. His loss has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew him. But his spirit lives on—in the music he loved, the joy he brought to every room, and the many lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness.

Your donations will go to Brain Tumour Ireland , a charity close to Eamonn’s Heart.
