After a long hard winter we’re delighted to announce the summer line-up for the 13th Open House Festival in Bangor.

It was back in 2012 that the then Belfast-based Open House went on its holidays to the seaside, and never looked back. As the festival enters its teenage years, we’ve brought together a programme including music, comedy, film and talks, with appearances by international touring artists alongside the cream of local talent. The Walled Garden will again host our main concerts and comedy, and the much-loved Picnic In The Park returns to the bandstand every Sunday in July and August.

Event listings are now online:

We want to thank the great staff at two Belfast venues that we’ve recently worked with. Last night at the Mandela Hall, in conjunction with our Bangor neighbours Bending Sound record shop, we organised two back–to–back album launch shows for Irish artist Dermot Kennedy. It was a bit tricky given the large audience numbers and tight turnaround but Johnny, his staff and crew at the Mandela Hall were superbly professional and smashed it.

And during last month’s storm we had only a few hours to relocate a sold–out Lucinda Williams show. Thank you to Adam and everyone at Limelight Belfast for taking the show on and making it such a seamless switch. The Limelight is a promoter friendly venue and we are very grateful for their help last month.

These are tough times. Support your local venues. Support Music Venue Trust.

We’re opposing BT’s planning application for a nearly 10 feet high (2.986m) Street Hub in front of the Court House, in place of the derelict phone box that currently occupies the space. "The Court House is an iconic, landmark building with a rich history. Placing a large commercial digital advertisement directly in front would go against all guidance and legislation" says Alison Gordon. "This is a case of a commercial company using its historic privileged position as a provider of public services to justify an unnecessary advertising feature." You can read an article about it on the link below and if you feel strongly, you can submit an objection to the application via Ards and North Down Planning Portal ref: LA06/2026/0103/F

The acclaimed collaboration between Eddi Reader and the Alan Kelly Gang comes to Belfast this September. The mesmerising Scottish songstress joins Ireland’s piano accordion maestro and his gang of talented musicians. This is a fluid union of Irish and Scottish traditions from a collective of true masters, friends, and long-time collaborators. The Alan Kelly Gang’s trademark mix of strong dynamics and driving rhythms complements Reader’s thrilling performances and evocative story telling.

Please note that tonight’s concert with Lucinda Williams is now taking place at The Limelight, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast. There are no other changes – the times are still the same, details below, and it is fully–seated. Despite the poor weather Lucinda, her band and her crew drove up from Dublin last night (on the day of Lucinda’s birthday). We are all determined that the show must go on.

Please advise the change of venue to anyone that you have bought a ticket for, or that you know is going.

There is now less than a week to go before Lucinda Williams returns to Belfast, taking the stage at The Mandela Hall this coming Tuesday 27th January. Her latest album World's Gone Wrong is out today and it looks set to pick-up on the themes of her previous work. Paste Magazine writes:

One of the reasons listeners have so readily followed Williams down these different paths is that she has remained an authentic voice with something to say—and on World’s Gone Wrong, boy, does she have a bone to pick. The latest from Williams doesn’t provide a survival guide to hard times, nor does it promise that things will necessarily get better. Instead, she offers a letter to listeners assuring them that they are not alone in their struggles.

There are a very limited number of tickets remaining for this fully-seated show featuring one of the great American songwriters and her live band on the second night of their tour. We hope to see you there!
