Another great regional training day yesterday! Many thanks to Clive Bush and Prusik Rescue for organising the annual multi-agency rope rescue training exercise, at Sandford Quarry near Cheddar in Somerset.

The event brought together members of a number of different rescue teams, including some from quite a long way away, to collaborate in a couple of cliff rope rescue scenarios to rescue the poor Ruth Lee Ltd manikins. It was a really useful opportunity to share good practice and to work closely with other agencies, and there were some useful workshops as well as the practical scenarios

Particular thanks to ‘Bushy’ for a great event, and once again we were also very grateful to the Rapid Relief Team UK for feeding us all day.

On Monday evening we held our second big training event of the autumn, this time at Cardiff International White Water.

Search and Rescue volunteers from Mountain Rescue England and Wales and Lowland Rescue teams across the south and west of England were put through their paces during the afternoon and evening.

Using a venue like this means we can practice high risk rescue techniques in a controlled environment and allowed team members to complete various activities in both light and dark, with the floodlights off, including:
> Rescue from vehicles in water
> Tethered swim, throwline and reach pole rescues
> 2 and 4 point tethers with a sled
> Boat evacuation using a Hi-line
> Powered Boat Ladder Operations

Thanks to Alex George and Darren Lovering for sharing their photos with us!

On Saturday we held the third Annual SWERA Training Day, near Bream in the Forest of Dean. 95 team members from our different member teams came. They searched for and rescued casualties above ground and below, in a variety of challenging scenarios. And they enjoyed a fantastic lunch provided by the Rapid Relief Team.

Many thanks to Paul Taylor from GCRG and John Dutton from SARA for organising the event, and the Deputy Gaveller of The Forest of Dean for his support.
