Mountsorrel Community Support Group

ReachOut across Mountsorrel last night with a focus on The Fieldfare Estate as there has been some issues with ASB involving young people. While we were there we engaged with 2 individuals who spoke to us about issues they have in the area and how others actions impact in their lives and how people act towards them. 😢.
Heavy engagement with 2 different groups down on the Green and in Castle Gardens.
The ones in the Green were causing issues as we were directed to them. We had a long conversation and addressed these behaviours, they went off and we didn’t see them for the rest of the evening.
The group in Castle Gardens engaged positively and spoke about wanting a youth club for them as it’s getting cold now and some of them even seemed advice and information from us regarding a couple of issues affecting them.
They may have been noisy but they were behaving.
All in all a positive session with good engagement.

A busy today, started with a virtual 1:1 with a young person who has been struggling a bit lately with their emotions following a family breakdown. Also had a conversation with mum and guided her to seek some support to.
Following that there was some in community support for a couple of vulnerable members of the community who needed some shopping and some medication collecting as they have been ill and couldn’t get out.
Also helped move some furniture up to Rose cottage rest home for one of their new residents.
This evening we have our young carers out at the cinema and I hope they have a fab time.
All in all a positive and productive day.

We are asking for help, if you can.
Phoenix YPP, ReachOut, Young Carers and the other youth offers are so important to the young people of Mountsorrel.
Mug & Mingle, MENS, In Community Support is equally important to the wider community of Mountsorrel.
Ant has worked tirelessly to establish these groups and services and goes above and beyond to ensure everything continues to the highest standard. I know it took a lot for him to reach out and ask for this support, so if you can help then please do. Every bit helps.

The ReachOut team were out and about last night across the village and we came across a small group of young people of mixed genders and the language from some of the males in the group towards others in the group, especially the females was disgusting, derogatory and upsetting to hear. We approached the group and immediately checked on the wellbeing of those who appeared to be the target of this language. They all knew each other and all of the same ages 13-15 and the boys in question said "its banter, it's a joke"!! We addressed this with some on the spot education on bullying, discrimination along with how we should be treating each other. By the time we had finished this impromptu education session the boys were very apologetic, especially as they are known to us and know full well that parents will be informed (which they have been and are not impressed). We ensured that all of the young people made their way home and we let the parents of all the young people know what we had heard and the conversations we had, also offering up any additional support going forward, which was very welcomed.
