AI is becoming part of everyday life, but knowing where to start can feel daunting and knowing the pitfalls is essential.

The Cheshire Federation of WIs Website & Social Media Committee invites CFWI members to two friendly, practical Zoom sessions with Helen Jackson, Vice President of Upton Village WI.

🤔 Session 1 – Thursday 22 October, 7pm
Getting started with AI

No experience needed – just bring your curiosity.

🤔 Session 2 – Tuesday 10 November, 7pm
We’ll start with a short recap of Session 1, before exploring new ground with more practical ideas and demonstrations.

Both sessions are friendly, relaxed and designed to build your confidence.

Cheshire Life has arrived

The September issue has just dropped through the letterbox, and we’re delighted to see our Literary Lunch at Hartford Golf Club featured.

Such lovely memories of a fabulous day, organised by our very own Pat, our Cheshire News Editor.

A wonderful event, a brilliant venue and, judging by those smiley faces, a very happy gathering of WI members.

Well done, Pat and all those who contributed in some way to make it a day to remember. And thank you to the team at Cheshire Life for supporting us.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) will withdraw the entire £2.8 million annual grant funding for e-MERLIN, Britain’s national radio astronomy facility, when the present agreement expires in March 2028. Unless money is found elsewhere, all scientific observations at Jodrell Bank will cease. Twenty-eight jobs go directly, and the work of around 3,000 scientists who use the array of radio antennas is thrown into doubt.

We members of Cheshire Federation of WIs are horrified at this short-sighted decision and want the Council to reverse it immediately.

If you support Jodrell Bank, please construct a hat that looks like the iconic Lovell Telescope. Any materials, including knitting, crochet, card or paper would all be good. Wear the hat, take a selfie, and post it on your Facebook with the words above. Also send to [email protected] so we can post your photo on the Federation socials. Please post on any local community sites you may be a member of too.

Have you discovered VIA yet? It’s a fantastic resource for WI members, with a growing range of inspiring courses, activities and meeting ideas to enjoy at your own pace. It's also part of your WI membership with most of the courses free of charge.

Cheshire Federation of WIs member Cath Cole is a face to face and a virtual member of Cheshire Virtual Wheatsheaves WI and recently tried one of the creative sessions and loved the experience of producing her own fabric landscape. A wonderful opportunity to learn something new, be creative and perhaps discover a skill you didn’t know you had.

Whether you want to learn, create, explore a new interest or find ideas to share with your WI, take a look at the VIA. You might just find your next project there.

Carol Nicholls of The Queen Bees (Bramhall) WI send this lovely update regarding their chosen charity Smart Works 'Following on from our presentation from Smart Works ,our chosen charity ,we appealed to our members for handbags of all varieties for Smart Works to either sell or accessorise. Wow, what a response, well over 100 bags were donated.
