CANCER RESEARCH UK is urging everyone in Jersey, Channel Islands, to find at least eight people they want to spend the night with – but all for a seriously good cause. The charity is encouraging friends, family and work colleagues to get together and enter Relay For Life, a unique celebration of life and hope which unites communities to help beat over 200 types of cancer. Teams of between eight to
15 people, of all ages, levels of fitness and from all walks of life are needed to take part over the weekend of 25-26 June 2016. Participants are asked to raise as much money as possible in the months leading up to the Relay through a wide range of fundraising activities and securing donations from friends, families and work colleagues. The Relay Committee are always on hand to help with fundraising ideas, and will also help to market your event. We have monthly team nights for you to get to know other team captains and relayers in order for you to learn more about CRUK, exchange tips and ideas, or just make new friends. Our aim is to bring the community together with this event which you can be a major part of. During the Relay itself, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys a wide range of fun activities on offer. As Relay For Life is non-stop through the night, those team members not on the track can take turns to rest, eat, or sleep in their tents which are set up close by. As dusk falls, the atmosphere quietens as the Candle of Hope ceremony begins. The event is the most poignant part of Relay For Life when specially made Candle of Hope bags - decorated with touching messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones - are filled with sand and lit up with candles around the track.
