Hello everyone, we want to address some of the ongoing comments and clarify a few points.
We are a small community-led initiative that has been working to reopen and restore a local space for positive use. Over time, we have supported and delivered church events (Christ Embassy) and explored running a crèche to serve families in the area (they also prevented us here)
Many of you may have attended events here such as Teen Jam, Performing arts club or You may have got married, christened or celebrated your birthday here!
More recently, we were raising funds through the sale of food (in a trailer on private land) with the aim of reopening the building and launching a community soup kitchen to support local people in need. We have not done anything illegal.
Unfortunately, there has been a lot of misinformation shared about our work. Some of the statements circulating are not accurate and do not reflect what we are actually doing or trying to achieve.
In eveything we have done and tried to do we have recieved this same harrasment and malice.
Our focus has always been and continues to be community benefit, support, and creating a safe space for local people. We are just trying to get the funds in place.
The person behind Mitcham cricket greens pages has no interest in this being a community space as far as I can see. The page mainly spreads negativity and has no issue showcasing there micro-aggressions towards us .
When we were selling food all of the people who bought food to help fundraise were so happy to be apart of the reopening. We really got to connect with so many residents and were often told that what we were doing was needed in the community.
We want to reopen ASAP but we are constantly targeted. We have spent £1000’s of pounds removing fly tipping and graffiti. Despite all the negativity we remain positive and we continue raising funds. We are open to constructive conversation with anyone who genuinely wants clarity or to collaborate.
