Hi Everyone

Just to let you know that our next Minehead Repair Cafe is this Saturday, 18th April 2026 from 10am - 12midday at The Sacred Heart Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead.

Please bring your items for repair as well as those items that require sharpening or PAT testing.

We hold a Repair Cafe the 3rd Saturday of the month and if you can't make this event then the next meeting is on 16th May 2026.

THE REPAIR CAFE ON 13TH DECEMBER IS CANCELLED. SEE YOU IN JANUARY.

We hope you’re all enjoying the wonderful Christmas events happening around the area.

You may have started checking your Christmas lights and decorations to make sure they’re ready for the festive season. If something isn’t working, don’t throw it away — bring it along to the Repair Café on:

While sorting through stored decorations, you might even come across long-forgotten treasures. One recent example was an Ultra R786 Coronation Twin radio, originally launched to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II — making it over 70 years old!

The radio was brought to us not working. After inspection, our repairer found a common fault in vintage valve radios: a dried-out high-tension smoothing electrolytic capacitor, which caused a loud hum and made the radio unusable.

Using suitable vintage replacement parts sourced online, the capacitor was replaced. When the original selenium rectifier later failed, it was upgraded with a modern silicon replacement. Finally, the crackly volume control was cleaned using contact cleaner — and although the audio is not perfect, the radio is now working again!

Christmas lights might be simpler to fix, but the skills and experience of our volunteers mean that many items can be tackled and often repaired.

So bring along your:
• Non-working clocks
• Small electrical items
• Torn or damaged textiles
• Broken jewellery
• Tools that need sharpening

Our next Repair Café is this Saturday, 15 November, at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead (TA24 5RG) from 10am-12midday.

If you’re starting to think about Christmas and want to check your decorations early, feel free to bring them along for PAT testing or general repair. If it’s still a little early for you, no problem – as always, bring your jewellery, clocks, textiles, electronics, or items that need sharpening and our volunteers will be happy to help.

And don’t forget to pop our final Repair Café of the year in your diary: Saturday 13 December. We’ll be welcoming the festive season and helping give those unpredictable Christmas decorations a new lease of life!

Hi All

Another successful repair cafe in September where we repaired a wide range of items including pillow cases and jewellery.

A reminder that the next Minehead Repair Cafe is on Saturday 18th October from 10am- 12pm at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead.

Originally we didn't have a date in December but we will now open on Saturday 13th December to help you out with non working Christmas lights and faulty but precious Christmas ornaments as well as any other items that you want to bring.

Sharpening service for knives and garden tools — please wrap these securely in towels for safety, as they have sharp or pointed ends
Braising for suitable items — feel free to bring them along.

Our clock repairer Graham will not be with us this weekend so please do not bring in any clocks for repair.

Do bring in electrical items to be PAT tested and checked and happy to give advice on how to check an electrical blanket.

Minehead Repair Café – Next Meeting Reminder

Our next Repair Café gathering will be on Saturday, 20th September, from 10:00 am to 12:00 midday at Sacred Heart Church, Townsend Road.

At our August session, we:

Brought a much-loved child’s toy back to life with some careful stitching
Replaced the lead on an old vacuum cleaner, giving it a new lease of life
Glued a cherished garden ornament so it’s ready to face the winter

Each of these items carried sentimental value — and all were saved from landfill.

We also offer:

Sharpening service for knives and garden tools — please wrap these securely in towels for safety, as they have sharp or pointed ends

Braising for suitable items — feel free to bring them along

PAT testing for all electrical items we repair, plus a PAT testing service for items that legally require certification
