Minehead Repair Café is back!

Join us on Saturday 17 October 2017, which is also International Repair Day, from 10am to 12 noon at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead.

Bring along jewellery, textiles, clocks, ceramics and electrical items that need repairing, as well as items that need sharpening. Cash donations are appreciated.

🌍 Did you know?
The first Repair Café was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2009. The movement has since become an international success, with the 4,000th Repair Café opening in Canada at the end of August 2026.

♻️ We can’t always repair every item, but we can try—and help keep more things out of landfill. Please note that we cannot dispose of unrepairable items. However, the following can be collected alongside your household recycling:

• Small household batteries — place them in a tied plastic bag.
• Small household electrical items — no bigger than a carrier bag, such as kettles or toasters. Place them in an untied plastic bag. TVs, monitors and microwaves cannot be collected.
• Vapes — keep them separate and place them in a small tied plastic bag.

⚠️ Safety Awareness: Please do not put gas canisters or lithium batteries in general waste, as they cause fires at the recycling plants. Please also dispose of sharps such as Mounjaro injections in a sharp’s box as the needles are a risk of injury to the refuse collectors.

We had a busy Repair Café in August, with a number of items brought back to life—including vacuum cleaners and clocks. We also received this lovely email from a very happy customer about his repair:

Would you please pass my tremendous thanks on to Graham for fixing my cuckoo clock. It was bought in the Black Forest in Germany about 35 years ago but hasn’t been used since the last but one house move over 10 years ago. I was devastated when I tried to use it again and it wouldn’t start. Really grateful that Graham and the Repair Cafe got it going again and it has been working perfectly since. Thankyou.

Some items brought in for repair—such as handheld vacuum cleaners—have failed soon after purchase. We’re always happy to unblock hoses and clean filters, but if an item becomes faulty within six months to a year, or even within six years, it’s worth checking your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Which (2026) explains:
One aspect of a product being of satisfactory quality is durability—in other words, how long it lasts.
Durability takes into account many different factors like product type, brand reputation, price point and how it is advertised. For example you're unlikely to be able to claim a cheap kettle that's stopped working after four years isn't durable. Whereas a more premium and expensive kettle that's been well looked after and has stopped working after 14 months could be considered to not be durable, and therefore not of satisfactory quality

According to Which (2026), you should go back to the retailer. They also state:
Being able to show a receipt for the faulty goods you purchased may speed up your claim, but it is not essential to have one.
In many cases it would be unreasonable for a retailer to expect you to have kept your receipt, especially if the goods develop a fault after several months.
If you want to return faulty goods without a receipt, proof of purchase - such as a bank statement - can be sufficient alternative and enough evidence to prove you purchased the goods.

Just a friendly reminder that the Repair Café is taking place this Saturday, 15 August, from 10am to 12 midday at The Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead TA24 5RG.
We’ll be delighted to welcome you between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Donations towards repairs are always gratefully received, and we can accept cash only, please.
Alongside electrical items, our repairers will be happy to help with jewellery, clocks, textiles and garments. We also offer PAT testing, plus a tool and knife sharpening service. If you’re bringing sharp items, please wrap them securely in a towel before you come along.

Hi Everyone

If you have an electric or battery-operated fan that is no longer working, bring it along for repair to the Minehead Repair Café on Saturday, 18 July 2026, at The Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead TA24 5RG.

We’ll be open from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Donations towards repairs are always gratefully received (cash only, please).

We’re also happy to help with other broken electrical items, jewellery and clock repairs, and garment repairs. We also offer a tool and knife sharpening service (please wrap sharp items securely in a towel before bringing them along) and PAT testing.

Hi Everyone,

A friendly reminder that Minehead Repair Café will be opening its doors on Saturday 20th June from 10:00am to 12:00 midday at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead.

We'd love to see you there, so please bring along any items that need a little care and attention. Our volunteers can help with sharpening tools, repairing clocks, troubleshooting electrical items, and mending textiles, jewellery, and willow items.

While you wait, why not relax with a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit for just £1.00? It's a great opportunity to meet others, enjoy a chat, and give your much-loved items a new lease of life.

It was great to see so many people at The Party in the Park at Blenheim Gardens last Saturday. A reminder that Minehead Repair Café is open this Saturday, 16th May 2026 from 10am-12midday at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Townsend Road, Minehead TA24 5RG
Our volunteers can help repair: clocks, jewellery, textiles and small electricals including lawn mowers and vacuum cleaners.

Additionally we offer tool sharpening services, including garden shears, advice on willow-made items and PAT testing services. Please wrap any items to be sharpened in a tea towel.

Please note, we are unable to accept: clothing alterations, mobile phones or laptops, electric bikes/scooters or mobility scooters and white goods such as washing machines.
