🚨MAY HALF TERM SAFETY MESSAGE 🚨
Saturday 23rd - Sunday 31st

With beautiful Sunny weather fast approaching South East Cornwall, please read these safety messages from our team to keep you out of danger this May Half Term!

☀️ SUNNY WEATHER

- HIGH UV INDEX (Max 8, 25th/26th). Stay protected with the following methods. Slip on some Breathable, UV Protective Clothing. Slap on a Sun Hat and Sun Glasses. Slop on Water Resistant, SPF 50+ Sun Cream regularly and reapply after swimming.

- HIGH TEMPERATURES (26C +). Stay Hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during, and after your beach visits. Whilst Heat Illnesses can affect everyone, Young Children and Elderly People are highest risk.

🌊 SEA CONDITIONS

- RIP CURRENTS. Even with calm sea states forecast, our beaches have been and continue to be host to strong Rip Currents across all stretches. Swim Between the Red and Yellow Flags at all times.

- DEEP WATER. Deep channels not only facilitate Rip Current dangers, but beware of steep shelving water. Weak swimmers should always stay well within their depth.

🌕 🌊 TIDAL RANGE

- TIDAL CUT OFF. Our beaches have a large tidal range, and HIGH TIDES IN THE AFTERNOON/EVENING all week. Be aware of safe exit paths and moving yourself and belongings in plenty of time to avoid being cutoff. Check the Tide Times before visiting and on our Information Boards and follow Patrolling Lifeguards’ advice on moving.

- CHANGES TO SEA STATE. As the tide moves, different sand channels become submerged, changing the safety of these areas. Our Safe Swimming and Bodyboarding area (Red and Yellow Flags) WILL move throughout the day, so please move with it.

⚠️ Always Swim between the and at a Lifeguarded Beach.

Mental Health Awareness Week – A Reminder We All Need

This week is a chance for all of us to pause, check in, and remember that mental health isn’t something we deal with alone. Every one of us faces challenges, pressures, and moments where life feels heavier than it should. There’s no shame in that — it’s part of being human.

If you’re struggling, please know this: you matter, your story matters, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. Talk to someone you trust, take a moment for yourself, or simply acknowledge how you’re feeling. Small steps count.

And if you’re doing well right now, look around you. A kind word, a message, or a quiet “How are you really doing” can make a bigger difference than you realise.

Let’s use this week to support each other, lift each other, and remind our community that nobody walks their path alone.

Be gentle with yourself. Be gentle with others. One conversation can change everything.

🆘In an emergency dial 9️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ and ask Devon and Cornwall Police for Mountain Rescue.

“Snoring… or something far more serious?” 🚑

A few days ago we shared Hayden’s story, 18, collapsed at home, found by his mum Stacey making what sounded like snoring noises.

Except… it wasn’t snoring.

It was agonal breathing.

That strange, irregular, gasping “snore-like” sound is the body’s last-ditch attempt to get oxygen in during cardiac arrest. It’s not normal breathing. It’s not “they’re fine, just asleep.” It’s a massive red flag.

And here’s where it matters ⬇️

Even if someone sounds like they’re breathing, ambulance service call handlers across the UK are trained to spot this over the phone. Using their systems and experience, they might still tell you to start CPR.

Yes… even with the “snoring.”

Signs of agonal breathing can include:

Irregular, gasping breaths
Snorting or choking sounds
Very slow or sporadic breathing
Unresponsive patient

If you’re thinking, “this doesn’t look right” — trust that instinct.

Because in cases like Hayden’s, those early moments make all the difference.

📞 If in doubt, call 999
🫀 If told to start CPR, do it
💭 If it doesn’t look or sound right, it probably isn’t

Better to be the person who “overreacted” than the one who waited.
