UNISON TEWV has nominated John Malcolm for the Northern Regional General Seat for the Health Service Group Executive.

This is the leading activist body that determines strategy for pay and general Terms and conditions in the NHS. Unison needs a change in direction on pay campaigns and to organise around a specific demand and a percentage rise not a vague call for better pay. Over the past few years our low paid members have fallen below the minimum wage resulting in a temporary uplift from employers. We need a leadership that is led by activists rather than national officers and that our regional representatives do not follow blindly the advice from them as is often the case. I campaigned for Angela Egan our new General Secretary and agree that UNISON needs to change and for a review of the Unions relationship with the Labour Party. No blank cheques for Labour.

Mileage rate review is long overdue, says UNISON

UNISON general secretary Andrea Egan on the Treasury announcement:

"This review is long overdue. Many workers have paid a heavy price for simply going about their jobs due to frozen rates.

“For people providing essential public services who need their own cars for work, that’s left them thousands of pounds out of pocket.

“It’s good news the chancellor has listened and is heading in the right direction. Particularly when household bills are on the rise again.”
