What have we been up to in recent weeks?

It's been BUSY!

Winterslow Beavers:
Winterslow Beavers have been making the most of the better weather, making sure to get outside.

The Beavers have been busy working on their Gardening Badge, starting with clearing the weeds from the allotment! A huge effort by the Beavers and their leaders, getting the ground ready and prepared for when they sow seedlings!

The Beavers then planted their own seeds to take home and nurture, before sowing them into the ground in a couple of weeks! They all got to plant several seeds, Sunflowers, Runner Beans and Peas, Squash and Courgettes! The Beavers are doing a great job of looking after their seeds and will be planting them in a couple of weeks! Well done Beavers and the Beaver Leaders!

Winterslow Cub Pack:

The Cubs have kicked off the new term and are getting straight into their badge work. The first session saw them complete multiple code breaking challenges, encouraging Team work and decoding, pulling on each Cubs strengths and using them to complete each puzzle. The had to crack each code to get the location of the next clue and it was fantastic to see the Cubs working together in their Sixes. A huge well done to their Team Leader, Jo, who had spend an immense amount of time to plan and prepare for that session.

The Cubs have then turned their focus to their Road Safety Badge, learning the rules for the roads, what to look out for, and how to cross roads safely. they did an activity which involved some of the Cubs being cars and driving around the road (the tug of war ropes) and, apart from a few speeding fines issued but the Cub Car Police, they all had a great time!

This week, the Cubs took to the roads around the village to demonstrate the correct ways to cross the roads safely, following the system STOP. THINK. LISTEN. LOOK. They also learn about road signs, the different shapes and colours and what they mean for drivers and other road users!

Winterslow Scout Troop:

The Scouts also jumped head first into the new term with a session sorting the donated wood for our new fire pit at Barry's Field. They worked really hard for 2 hours to sort and arrange the wood, prepping it so it was ready to burn and trying to organise it tidily, and experienced using tools and methods to help aid this.

The Scout also took part in a code breaker evening - with a slight difference. Each Patrol started at the same time, with the same clue, and we had a patrol race. There were 9 different tasks/codes to break in total and the winning patrol was Tiger, winning by the skin of their teeth. Each Scout played a part in their patrols success, and though only one patrol won on the night, its was incredibly close throughout the whole evening, with each patrol being in the lead at different points in the evening.

This week, the Scouts were on teenage checks in preparation for our Group camp at the end of the month. The Bell Tents hadn't been out since Cub Camp on September, so we had no idea what we might find! The Scouts worked fantastically as teams to get all the bell tents out, check them over and make sure they were ready for use in a few weeks! A very productive evening for all!

As always, we are forever grateful to all our Leadership for making Scouting in Winterslow such an amazing thing to be part of. If you feel like you could spare a few hours a week to join the team and support our section meetings, please don't hesitate to get in touch for an informal chat! [email protected]!

A huge well done to all of our Scouts and Leaders who represented Winterslow Scout Troop at the District St George’s Day Parade in Salisbury yesterday, Sunday 26th April! 🌟⚜️

It was fantastic to see so many of our young people proudly taking part, celebrating the values of Scouting and renewing their Promise alongside Scouts from across the district.

Thank you to all of our Leaders for giving up their time to support the event, and to our families for helping make sure everyone was there, smartly turned out, and ready for the day.

We are incredibly proud of how well everyone represented Winterslow Scout Troop — a great example of teamwork, respect, and Scout spirit! 👏

The Beavers and Cubs this week worked on some very special things for Mothers Day this weekend. (Hence why this post is slightly delayed!)
The Beavers planted some spring flowers (and managed to do it outside in the last of the daylight!) for their Mums before starting to design their own badge, including the badge requirements!

The Cubs crammed their session full of Mothers Day creating, making home made truffles, drizzled in chocolate, complete in their own gift boxes, and then making some very beautiful cards for other handmade paper flowers! Great effort from the Cubs and the results are fantastic

This week, the Scouts finally got to record their news reports for their Media Relations and Marketing badge! All the scouts did a fantastic job and the results show exactly that.

While one patrol was recording, the rest of the troop learnt about different ways disabilities affect people. They completed a blindfolded obstacle course, made jam sandwiches blindfolded, and they learnt about how braille works before having a go and writing their names in braille!

What a week!!

From all at WSG, we wish all the mums and mother figures, a very happy Mothers Day.
To anyone who finds this day hard, be kind to yourselves ❤️❤️

Today, 22 February, is a special day for Scouts everywhere. It’s a celebration of our shared values and common goals – working towards peace, unity and international friendship.

These sound like big ambitions, and they are. Especially in this day and age, when there’s so much going on in the world. But we can make them a reality by carrying out simple acts of kindness in our everyday lives. Every time we support people in our local communities, we’re living our promise to help other people.

Every one of us is proud to make our promise and build on the legacy of generations of the Scouts that came before us.

Founder’s Day is a powerful reminder that we’re part of a global family of 57 million Scouts worldwide. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the impact we make together, why we’re proud to belong to our global movement, and why our Scout values still matter.

The Scout Troop have been working on their Media Relations and Marketing Badge over the last few weeks. One of their tasks was to pick an event in the Scouting Calendar that we have been a part of, and create a news report about the event!

All the patrols worked really hard and their scripts have definitely got humour in them! The Scouts have free rein to use props and whatever else they need…

One of the patrols “interviews” Kevin and Sam and this is one of the Scouts impersonating Kev for their news report 😂 just need to work on the beard now T!
