Tickets are now on sale for a performance of Alexander’s Feast by G.F.Handel at All Saint’s Church, Marlow. The concert on Saturday 31st January is a splendid opportunity to hear Handel’s first use of an English text – an ode by Poet Laureate John Dryden celebrating St Cecilia’s Day and the “power of music”.

The Messiah (also recently performed by Marlow Community Choir) is Handel’s crowning achievement. But it could not have happened without the success of Alexander’s Feast. The British, under their new Hanoverian monarchs, were hungry for a new home-grown style. In a few short years, Handel cemented his place as the "people’s composer".

Tickets can be purchased online in advance (£18) or on the door (£20). The programme runs from 7pm to about 9pm. There will be an interval with refreshments.

Alexander's Feast, or the Power of Music, with music by the Baroque master George Frederic Handel (Messiah, Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks, Zadok the Priest), sets an ode written to celebrate St. Cecilia's Day by England's first Poet Laureate, John Dryden.
