✨ WIP Wednesday ✨

This week, Jodie has put her blanket to the side to work on something different - fungi! 🍄 🍄‍🟫

She got the itch for a new project, so instead of sacking off the blanket completely, Jodie decided to crochet just a few little mushrooms and toadstools to give her that 'new project' feeling!

Back to the Persian Tiles blanket for her next update though - she is determined not to leave this one unfinished!!

📚Jodie's TBR list for August!

This month, Jodie has picked quite a few re-reads. Mainly because she is going to be enjoying the summer holidays with the kids, so sometimes a nice re-read is easier to dip in and out of.

You may have noticed the first three books in the ACOTAR series are on here... Jodie is getting ready for the book six release at the end of October! 🤩

You might have noticed that only Jodie has given a TBR list this month. Charlotte has hit a reading lull - we've all been there! She's giving herself a bit of grace this month, spending time with her daughter through the school holidays and isn't pushing herself to do any reading. Hopefully in September she will have her nose stuck in a book again 🖤

We'd love to know if you've read any on the list but don't share any spoilers 🤫

📖✨Charlotte’s July reading round up

👎 Let's get the bad out of the way first - Charlotte DNF'd two books this month! Although Haunting Adeline has got lots of great reviews, Charlotte couldn't get over the grammatical and spelling errors in this one.

👍 Much to Jodie's delight, Charlotte has finally read Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros, the third in the Empyrean series. We're both now (im)patiently waiting for a release date and title for book 4! We have the short story collection, Threshing Day, on pre-order and we're looking forward to reading this at the end of September when it arrives. Onyx Storm was a 5⭐ read for Charlotte!

Special mention to Fifty-Fifty by Steve Cavanagh - a 4⭐ rating, this one kept Charlotte guessing!

📖✨Jodie’s July reading round up

So this month hasn't been the greatest in the way of reading my scheduled TBR 😂 only 4 out of 8 finished from the list. It's been a busy one with the kids' summer holidays starting, and physical reading time has taken a back seat. Most of the books on my TBR in July were physical or kindle books. I do love an audiobook to clean and tidy to, and with the kids being off there has been a bit more of that!

👎🏻 The books I struggled with this month were quick Borrowbox audio picks - The Rest of Our Lives by Ben Markovits and Orbital by Samantha Harvey. Neither had a very strong plot. I know orbital is supposed to just be a 'day in the life' POV of astronauts up in the space station, but I was still hoping for a little more than I got.

No 5 star books this month but some very strong 4 and 4.5 books!

👍 I finished the Powerless trilogy by Lauren Roberts and it didn't disappoint. 4.5⭐ for the second and third book. I couldn't give it the full 5⭐ because I guessed quite a few of the twists before they were revealed.

The other 4.5⭐ that stood out to me was Little Bang by Kelly McCaughrain. This is actually a YA book for readers 14+ years old, and that put me off at first. But I'm really glad I read it. It made me cry and is a very poignant and informative story.

This week, Jodie is continuing with her Persian Tiles blanket in the Eastern Jewels colourway!

Not too much progress over the last two weeks with the end of year teacher gifts she did, but she's getting there with it! Five more octagons to finish, then to sew everything together before starting the border 😍

With most Nottinghamshire schools drawing to a close at the end of last week, we're now in the summer holidays 🎉

With Jodie's kids both having bookish teachers, she decided to get creative and crochet some end of year gifts centred on reading 📚

A book bag for the teacher who loves to sit and read a physical book (plus a few of our own 'Blind date with a book' books inside 😍), and a kindle cover for the teacher who enjoys to read on her kindle (with a voucher for her to spend on a few ebooks of course!)

We have reserved a stall for the Autumn Craft Fayre in September at Vibrant Venue where we will be selling kindle covers, book bags and 'blind date with a book' books. So if you'd like to have a good look at these, make sure you visit us then!

✨ WIP Wednesday ✨

This week we decided to take some time out and do a mindful activity - paint by numbers.
We purchased the kit from The Works at the weekend before the author event.

We only managed to do one colour each before needing to go and pick the kids up from school, who we then treated to Thaymars icecream 😋

✨Yesterday we went to our very first author event at Inspire's Mansfield Central Library, where we had the pleasure of hearing T.M. Logan talk about his journey to becoming a multi-million-selling author.

We didn’t realise his success didn’t happen overnight.
He began writing his first novel, In Plain Sight, in 2006, spending seven years working on it before it was ultimately rejected by eight different publishers. Despite that setback, he kept going. He signed with literary agent Darley Anderson in 2009 and between 2013 and 2016 he worked on his debut thriller - Lies.

Lies ended up being one of Amazon’s biggest ebooks of 2017 and his success didn’t end there.
The Holiday & The Catch were both adapted for screen and The Daughter & The Holiday were both featured on the Richard & Judy book club pick.

📕 We were also told the title of next year’s release… The Family.

Unfortunately, Charlotte didn’t time the car parking very well. The event ran over a little past the time specified, so after a very quick (and blurred) selfie we had to leave 😞

Just before we left, Charlotte did manage to buy a copy of T.M. Logan's most recently published book, The Weekend, which he graciously signed before we had to run 🏃‍♀️

Now we are researching other author events in our area. Hopefully ones were we won’t have to rush off 🫣 🏃🏻‍♀️ 💨

Have you heard of any events around Mansfield that you could recommend to us on this front? Have you ever met an author? Comment below to share your experience 🤩

This week, Jodie is still working on her blanket, Persian Tiles – Eastern Jewels, designed by Jane Crowfoot and Lucia Dunn. 😍

A lot of progress in the past two weeks! Do you think she will have it finished in another two weeks' time?
