I was reminded today that some senior staff forget or are oblivious to the privilege that they have.

It’s expensive to be poor, which is described brilliantly by Terry Pratchett in the text below.

Then Maslow’s hierarchy of needs would say that so long as a person is trying to satisfy their physiological needs (red tier of triangle), they cannot give attention to the other needs we have as humans (upper tiers of triangle).

So many people are struggling to meet their physiological needs, yet the people making decisions for them do not understand that struggle or how hard life is when you are simply trying to survive and do not have the chance to live.

We need more leaders who have stories of survival rather than stories of privilege.

Mental Health Awareness Week starts today!

As the week begins, here is a gentle reminder to take time to check in with yourself and others, and remember that help is always available.

If you need support or someone to talk to, please reach out.

This year’s theme is “Take Action” — because even small, intentional steps can make a big difference to our mental health and wellbeing.

Whether it’s reaching out to someone, stepping outside for fresh air, taking a break, or doing something you enjoy, taking action helps us stay connected, build resilience, and look after our mental health every day.

👉 We’d love to hear from you — what action will you be taking this week to support your wellbeing?
Drop it in the comments!

Changes in the political landscape may be difficult for all trade unionists as we prepare to work more closely with different political parties.

I’m sure that like us, you’ve watched results across Wales and the UK with both hope and horror.

The best thing you can do right now is 😊
