At this month’s tenant event we were joined by Debbie from East Lothian Flower Farm, who led a beautiful workshop, helping us create a planter filled with plants and bulbs to be enjoyed over the spring and summer and hopefully for years to come🌸🌼🌹🥀

We enjoyed a friendly cuppa and chatted about our own gardens / balconies / windowsills. Debbie shared some brilliant tips on gardening on a budget:
1️⃣ Join local groups such as: East Lothian Seed, Cuttings, Plant Club – people often have free cuttings they want to give away
2️⃣ Look out for local plant sales

We were pleased to welcome Richard Meade, Chief Executive Scottish Federation of Housing Associations - SFHA , to Homes for Life. Here's what he had to say following his visit:

"I spent some time with the team at Homes for Life Housing Partnership in Haddington today. It was great to hear about the redevelopment of flats at Old Course Gate in Musselburgh into some fantastic mid-market rent (MMR) properties. MMR is such an important part of Scotland's affordable homes offer, as it allows those on middle to low-incomes who wouldn't be able to get a social home or be able to afford private rent to get a home. Thanks to Gill Binnie and her team for the warm welcome, presentations and discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing the sector nationally and locally - including the new national housing agency. We agreed the new agency absolutely must work and support small housing associations who want to develop new social homes".

We are very excited to be able to provide laptops to tenants who are not online and would struggle to purchase their own device*, thanks to our new partnership with The Edinburgh Remakery

Homes for Life tenant, Irene, aged 85, was the first to receive one of these laptops. She lives alone and though she has frequent visits from her family, she doesn’t get out much due to her health. Here's what Irene said:

"Receiving the laptop will let me into another world. I can get in touch with people, do my shopping, find things out, if there’s something I’m curious about I can learn more. I’ve tried to save up for a laptop, but something always happens, meaning I need to use the money for something else. I love knitting and can’t wait to explore knitting patterns online. Thank you to Homes for Life and The Remakery, you don’t know how much this means to me”

We are excited to invite Homes for Life tenants to our February edition of ‘Warmer Winter’ event series.

Join us for friendly chat, hot drinks and home energy advice whilst making your own draught excluder.

We’ll be joined by Fixing for a Future, who will lead our draught excluder workshop and Changeworks, who will be on hand to provide home energy saving tips and guidance.

Happy New Year!

We kicked off the new year with the January edition of our Warmer Winter event programme.

Each month we invite tenants to get together for a friendly coffee and chat; an opportunity to meet other tenants, our staff team and visitors from other agencies.

Yesterday we were joined by Laura and Linzi from East Lothian Works. We discussed employment and voluntary opportunities, for those who are looking, we shared stories of our previous work experience, our aspirations for the year ahead and discovered the hidden talents of Homes for Life tenant, John, who shared videos of his performance in a Status Quo tribute band! A brilliant way to spend the morning.

Our next session takes place on Wednesday 4th February from 10am to 12pm, a chance to make your own draught excluder and get friendly home energy advice and support from our friends at Changeworks.

Open to all Homes for Life tenants, no need to book.
