🔎 Research Short: Secondary Music Teacher Identity

Our Research and Data Manager Dr Kerry Bunkhall spoke with Christopher Dalladay about his recent paper, ‘The personal and professional identity of secondary classroom music teachers in England’, published in the British Journal of Music Education.

The research focuses on the relationship between a secondary classroom music teacher’s identity as a musician and their identity as a teacher, and how far these complement and/or conflict with each other, alongside consideration of other personal characteristics.

This , we’re launching our latest campaign , to help strengthen and support the music education workforce.

Music educators play a vital role in inspiring the next generation of musicians by helping young people build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills. However, across the music education sector, recruiting and retaining music educators is becoming increasingly challenging.
