Working with communities, organisations, and businesses to build an ambitious movement, dedicated to planting a tree for every citizen within just five years. Our goals
- Plant 3 million trees, one for every perso

n across Greater Manchester, within 5 years
- Restore our greenspaces and woodlands for the benefit of both communities and wildlife

Last week, Englands Community Forest network hit a landmark milestone: 10 million trees planted across England since the Trees for Climate programme began in 2020!

We’re proud to be one of the fifteen forests contributing to this mega achievement.

To celebrate, we did what we do best and went tree planting. We spent a few days at Hall i’th Wood in Bolton with 32 brilliant volunteers, planting 345 trees together, including a ceremonial 10 millionth.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion. Every moment our Citizen Foresters spend out in the field helps us reach milestones like this🌳🏆

Spring is here🌸🌱🌷🌼🌳

And to celebrate we have a stacked calendar with plenty of opportunities for you to join us.

March is your last chance to plant trees with us this season. But no need to panic, we also have loads of other woodland management days to choose from. These sessions are a fab opportunity to spend a day out in nature and learn more about the woodlands, picking up some green skills along the way.

What have we been up to in the Medlock Valley? 🔎🐛🐜🐞🦗🦟🦋

Over the last 18 months, we’ve been working with Groundwork Greater Manchester, TCV Manchester, Canal & River Trust, Mersey Rivers Trust, and local councils to restore habitats across the Medlock Valley.

This is all with the hope of halting the decline of important species such as bats, water voles, willow t**s, great crested newts, and waxcap fungi.

With the help of 387 volunteers, we’ve been caring for woodlands across the valley. Together, our volunteers have dedicated close to 2,000 hours to managing green spaces right on their doorsteps.

Our volunteers have had the chance to develop an array of green skills, and we've seen people not only grow a stronger connection to nature but also to each other. It’s been a great reminder that nature recovery in urban areas is just as much about people as it is about biodiversity.

We’ll be sharing more on our socials over the coming week, so make sure you are following along.

What a fabulous day we had at Eatock Primary, planting some of the first trees of the season at the end of 2025.

We can't wait to see how the trees grow in years to come, and all that the children learn from the nature created around them.

If your school is interested in planting trees, please get in touch with our schools team at [email protected] 🏫

🌳💚✨ Thank you City of Trees ✨💚🌳
We were delighted to receive a certificate from City of Trees following our recent tree planting at school 🌱
As a community forest charity for the Greater Manchester area, City of Trees kindly supported us by planting new trees free of charge 👏This gave our children a fantastic, hands‑on opportunity to learn about the importance of trees and how we can care for our local environment 🌍
We’re so grateful for their generosity and support and we can’t wait to watch our new trees grow for years to come!
