Sexual violence is surrounded by myths and misconceptions.

MYTH: Sexual violence only happens between strangers.
FACT: It can happen between people who know each other, including partners, friends, acquaintances or family members.

MYTH: If someone doesn't report it, it wasn't serious.
FACT: There are many reasons someone may not report sexual violence. Reporting does not determine the seriousness of someone's experience.

MYTH: There's a particular way someone "should" react after sexual violence.
FACT: People respond to trauma in different ways. There is no single correct response.

Sexual violence is never the survivor's fault. Survivors deserve to be believed, supported and treated with compassion, whatever their circumstances.

The Manchester Trauma and Sexual Violence Network is launching ‘When They Tell You’, a new guide developed with input from 86 adult survivors and 71 professionals across Greater Manchester.

The guide offers practical, trauma-responsive tools and language to help professionals respond safely, empathetically and effectively to disclosures of sexual harm.
The webinar will feature a welcome from Charlotte Clayton, CEO of SARA - Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence, an introduction to the guide, authentic survivor voices, and a live Q&A.

This is an essential event for professionals working with adults who may disclose experiences of sexual harm.

Hours: 35 hours per week (with occasional evening and weekend working)
Contract: 2 Year Fixed-Term Contract
Location: Greater Manchester (office and community-based delivery)

Greater Manchester R**e Crisis is seeking an experienced and compassionate Volunteer and Community Development Worker to join our specialist team supporting women affected by r**e, sexual violence, child sexual abuse and exploitation.

This varied role combines volunteer coordination, community engagement, group facilitation and trauma-informed survivor support. You will support recruit, train and support volunteers, facilitate survivor-focused groups and activities, build community partnerships, and contribute to the delivery of our Women's Sexual Violence Recovery Hub.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with survivors of trauma, facilitating groups, supporting volunteers and working within a trauma-informed and survivor-centred framework.

Make a lasting difference for women affected by sexual violence across Greater Manchester.

Greater Manchester R**e Crisis is looking for a Registered Social Worker (Social Work England Registered) to join our innovative Greater Manchester Pathfinder Partnership, working across Greater Manchester R**e Crisis, MASH (MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health)) and Talk to Sara (SARA - Supporting Survivors of Sexual Violence)
This is a unique opportunity to step away from traditional statutory social work and work in a trauma-informed, relationship-based role, supporting women who have experienced sexual violence and who may also have complex mental health, safeguarding and social care needs.

Salary: £38,000-£40,000
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term until March 2028
Secondment opportunities considered.
