ABandOfBrothers Manchester

ABandOfBrothers Manchester ABandOfBrothers is an award-winning charity offering mentoring and rites of passage to men aged 18-25.

If you'd like to support our work, donations are gratefully accepted - https://abandofbrothers.enthuse.com/manchester_community #!/ A Band of Brothers is an award winning charity positively transforming the lives of young men and our communities. A Band of Brothers was born out of concern at the continuing escalation of self-destructive and anti-social behaviour among young men from every section o

f society, together with the realisation that any meaningful and sustainable solution entails the reclamation of shared local responsibility. What we do is establish a local community of connected, empathetic and skilled mentors. These mentors come from all walks of life and currently include local business men, tradesmen, film makers, an actor and a Chief Executive of a large public company. These mentors provide young men experiencing challenging life situations with coaching, challenge and a whole range of other support, both personal and practical to enable them to turn their lives around. We work in partnership with community leaders, local authorities, educationalists, health professionals and all service providers who are seeking an effective way to engage and marshal the energy of male youth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What makes us our approach different?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the key ways in which we are different is that through creating and supporting contemporary rites of passage for adolescents we intend:

• to create community by engaging and training adult men to act as mentors and allies for local young men- thereby bridging the perilous divide that exists between generations of males

• that every adolescent will have the opportunity to be recognised, acknowledged and welcomed into adulthood through a community sponsored rites of passage experience

• to encourage a search for meaning and purpose in life based on the miracles of nature and humanity rather than adherence to any particular religion, thus enabling men from different backgrounds and creeds to connect in a meaningful way

• "Hurt people, hurt people." We address the hurt carried by men directly, so that they are less likely to hurt others. Cognitive training programmes can be very useful, but all of the employability training in the world cannot enable a young man with chronic anger or self esteem issues to get a job

• to recognise that the "problem" of young men not just a problem with young men but of the wider societal context of their lives

We have an ambitious vision. We want to create centres for working with men outside of urban areas where they can come to connect, to heal and to return from with renewed purpose and vigour. These centres, called "Axis Mundi," will provide an important antidote to the pressures and frequent toxicity of modern life. Last weekend 20 men stepped through the threshold and into the unknown. They completed their Abandofbrothers rites of passage weekend and began the journey of their initiation into the Quest for Community, a 12-week program of individual and circle work, helping men to get to know their shadows and to take responsibility for their lives, becoming the sovereign leaders that they were destined to be.

This is hard work and requires courage, determination and integrity. Blessings to these new men and to all the men in Abandofbrothers working hard and volunteering their time and energy to make this world a better and safer place.

If you know a young man that could benefit from this, or an older man who wants to give something back, please write to [email protected] or call 0161 505 2150

Manchester has the third highest homelessness rate in the UK. 1 in 74 are now homeless. And the help they have is very limited.

This Christmas, we are partnering with Two Brews homeless charity to provide essential care packages for Manchester’s homeless community. Each bag will include survival basics like hats, gloves, socks, deodorant, chocolate, and more.

Our goal is to raise £1000 and we will be looking to distribute these over December. A donation of just £15 can fund one care package that could make a big difference to someone in need this winter.

Please donate or share to help us spread some warmth and kindness this holiday season. Together, we can make a real impact!

Please put ABOB in the reference of your donation 🙏🏽

Last month, Abandofbrothers Manchester joined with our brothers from ABOB communities in Bristol, Oxford, Leamington, Cornwall, Brighton and Bournemouth to hold a powerful Rites of Passage weekend where 19 new men were initiated.

We honour these new men for their courage in stepping through the threshold into the unknown, facing their fears and giving it their all. We celebrate with them as they each arrive in their respective communities, somehow transformed and ready to serve their community.

We are proud to welcome 7 new men to the Manchester Community!

If you are a young man aged between 18 and 25 and need some guidance, or you are an older man interested in becoming a mentor, please get in touch. Email [email protected], or call 0161 505 2150 and leave a message.
