Our siblings in Jamaica are in urgent need of sanitary and personal hygiene products — and that includes all people who menstruate, whether they’re women, trans men, non-binary or intersex.

We are delighted to welcome Crystal Todd as the new Chief Executive Officer of Black Beetle Health.

With over 20 years of senior leadership experience across the public, private, and charity sectors, she brings a powerful combination of professional expertise and deeply personal connection to our mission of advancing health equity for marginalised communities.

Crystal’s personal journey, including surviving two strokes, now living with aphasia, and navigating healthcare systems as a bisexual single mother, has shaped her resilience, compassion, and commitment to addressing systemic inequities.

These lived experiences provide her with a unique understanding of the barriers faced by Black and LGBTQ+ communities, ensuring authentic and empathetic leadership at Black Beetle Health.

Her career is marked by achievements in strategic leadership, transformation, and capacity building. She has successfully driven systemic change through cross-departmental initiatives, built strategic partnerships, and empowered teams to achieve long-term sustainability.

As CEO, Crystal aims to lead Black Beetle Health into its next chapter of growth by expanding outreach through digital platforms, forging strategic partnerships with academic institutions and healthcare providers, advocating for policy changes that amplify the voices of beneficiaries, and ensuring financial sustainability.

Her collaborative approach, combined with her passion for advocacy and equity, will strengthen the charity’s impact and ensure its continued leadership in promoting health equity.

We are excited to have Crystal at the helm and look forward to the innovation and vision she will bring to Black Beetle Health.

This month, Black Beetle Health had the privilege of facilitating the GM Race Equality Panel meeting, held at the historic Friends' Meeting House in the heart of Greater Manchester. It was a pleasure to see panel members dive back into their action plans and objectives, reflecting on progress made so far and rolling up their sleeves during thematic group sessions – all with a festive touch!

A highlight of the session was the insightful guest presentation from DCI Aneela Khalil-Khan, one of the most senior female police officers of colour. Her talk, "From Policing to Change-Making: Advancing Race Equity through Experience", offered an eye-opening perspective on the challenges and triumphs faced by officers of colour within the force and in their communities.

Her lived and professional insights were a powerful resource for the Panel, enriching discussions across key themes of policing, employment, health & wellbeing, and housing. Her presentation not only highlighted the barriers that persist but also celebrated the progress being made and the importance of breaking down misconceptions about ‘difference’.

As facilitators, we were proud to support such an engaging and forward-thinking session, helping to drive meaningful conversations and tangible actions towards a more equitable Greater Manchester. There is still much to do, but with the passion and dedication in the room, the future looks promising.

We’re looking for passionate, strategic thinkers to join our Advisory Board and help guide Black Beetle Health in its mission to promote health equity for LGBTQ+ People of Colour. As a member of our Advisory Board, you’ll play a key role in providing high-level insights, offering impartial advice, and supporting initiatives that make a meaningful impact on communities.

What You’ll Do
• Attend and contribute to Advisory Board meetings, sharing expertise and insight.
• Work closely with our CEO to identify critical issues and strategic opportunities.
• Collaborate with trustees and other advisors, guiding the charity’s work towards our long-term vision.
• Support the identification of future board members who align with our mission and values.
