The big man is back 💥 Mohawks are delighted to announce the signing of David Ion ✍️ David left us last summer, signing a deal with Greek side Megas Alexandros 1994. A proud father, David wanted to come back home to play for his local club, and spend more time with his family. David is a 4.5 classification player, known for his physical dominance and scoring ability. He’s a vocal leader on court, and Mohawks have missed him greatly. Mohawks coach, Lee Fawcett, said:

“We are pleased to welcome back our old Premier League captain, David Ion. David is a fantastic player, and he’s always been a big player for us. After our successful season last year, David will be a great addition to our squad. Welcome home, Ion man”.

It’s lovely to have you back, David 🤝

On behalf of Mohawks Wheelchair Basketball Club, I would like to express our gratitude for the Teeside Family Foundation. This week, they provided a generous grant paying for new tshirts for every single Mohawks player, staff member and coach attending finals.

Between our three National League teams, and our Women’s Premier League team, there will be a huge turnout for Mohawks this weekend at the National Finals. These tshirts are not only a uniform, but a memory for our players to look back on in years to come, following such a successful season across the board.

Thank you, Teeside Family Foundation. Mohawks could not do what we do without the backing of charities like yourselves 🤝

On the final day of the season, Mohawks went out with a bang 💥 Division 3 completed their invincible season, and Division 1 came away with a dominant win. Here are some of the highlights from those two games, and we now prepare for playoffs the weekend after next in Derby, where all three of our national league squads will be representing the club, along with our WPL team. 🏆MVP🏆 After a dominant win over Wakefield Whirlwinds, who else could it be besides the top scorer himself? Neil Carlisle 🔥 Neil is a 4 point classification player, known for his intensity and physicality on the court. Usually known for crashing the key and creating havoc, this weekend he went above and beyond, matching his high intensity game style with some really consistent shooting. He was top scorer, netting 32 points in what was a display of pure class from the big man. Coach, Phil Bramley, said:

“MVP has to go to Neil. I asked Neil to carry out a particular role on court, which I will leave the details between him and the team. He executed this very well and found his touch under the basket just in time for the bigger challenges ahead. Well done, Neil”.

🏆MVP🏆 This weekend, Division 3 ended their invincible season with another solid win, and the MVP had to be Chris Williams 🔥 Chris is a 5 point classification player, known for his consistent shooting and dominant height under the basket. Whether it be a layup or at the 3 point line, you can count on him to hit his shots. He gets himself in good positions, usually along the baseline, and communicates well to let his teammates know when he’s open. Chris is a very well liked player, and he is always encouraging his teammates around him, but he can make a big impact of his own too with his highly consistent scoring. Coach, Brian Russell, said:

“Mohawks came out on top this weekend, giving an all round performance. Each player who came on got plenty of time on court as well, and everybody got on the scoreboard. For me, Chris Williams was a sure shot in this game. Whenever he got anywhere near the basket, he scored, so today’s MVP just has to go to him. Well done, Chris!”
