Last week our Gorton group have been understanding discipline. This week it's wythensawe's turn.
💛 Discipline is about teaching, not punishing 💛
When we hear the word discipline, it's easy to think about consequences or punishment. But discipline is really about helping our children learn the skills they need to make good choices, manage their emotions, and understand boundaries.
Children don't always know how to express big feelings, and sometimes challenging behaviour is their way of telling us they need support.
Here are a few gentle reminders:
✨ Stay as calm as you can – your calm helps them find theirs.
🗣️ Set clear, consistent boundaries.
❤️ Praise the behaviour you'd like to see more of.
👂 Try to understand what's behind the behaviour – are they tired, hungry, overwhelmed, or seeking affection?
🤝 Remember that mistakes are opportunities to learn, for both children and parents.
No parent gets it right all the time, and that's okay. Parenting is a journey, not about being perfect.
