And so it begins… 🚴‍♂️

Our incredible riders have just set off from Barnsley Hospital Charity on the first leg of their 62-mile journey to Tameside Hospital, all in support of neonatal care 💙

This challenge is especially meaningful for baby Herbie and his family, after he was born nine weeks early and received life-changing care from neonatal teams in both Barnsley and Tameside.

We’re wishing the team the very best of luck today as they take on this inspiring ride to say thank you and raise vital funds to support other families 💫

We’ve had lots of lovely donations this Easter for our youngest patients🐣

From our Children’s Unit, to Children’s Outpatients and the Paediatric Emergency Department - all of our little visitors over the Easter weekend will have benefited from the kindness of our community 🤍

Today, on this lovely sunny Wednesday, we’ve been in Hyde town centre hosting a Chatty Bus, alongside the fantastic Social Values Champions from Go North West🧡

We were joined by our Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT Audiology and Cancer Services teams, offering a listening ear, supporting with referral paperwork, and most importantly, creating space for meaningful social interaction with our local community.

It’s been a brilliant reminder of how small conversations can make a big difference in our local areas🥰

The event was organised as part of the city region-wide celebration of the people, places, and partnerships growing and bringing Live Well to life across Greater Manchester.

When baby Herbie was born nine weeks early, it was the start of a frightening and uncertain time for his mum Jess Richardson and their family from Royston, Barnsley.

Now, in a show of gratitude for the care they received, Jess’s partner and friends are taking on a 62-mile charity bike ride to raise funds for the neonatal teams who helped them through those difficult weeks 🥰

Cyclists will take on a return bike ride from Barnsley Hospital to Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT on 10 April 2026, raising funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).

Jess Richardson, Herbie’s mum, said “When Herbie arrived 9 weeks early, it was an incredibly frightening time for us. Because there were no NICU beds available in Barnsley, we were transferred to Tameside where both of us received such amazing care and support.

“The teams at both hospitals helped us through one of the most challenging times in our lives. This bike ride is our way of saying thank you and giving something back so other families going through similar experiences can be supported too.” 🧡

A huge thank you to Denton Striders Walking Football Group 🧡

On this beautiful sunny day, we had the pleasure of visiting one of their training sessions, where we were incredibly grateful to receive a fantastic donation of £403.73 from their recent annual fundraising tournament held at Denton Youth FC.

Denton Striders – also known as Denton Walking Football Group – are a brilliant local group bringing people together through walking football, promoting fitness, friendship and fun for over 60s in our community.

Their support for our Dementia Fund will help us continue to enhance care and support for patients living with dementia at Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT 🥰

Thank you so much to everyone involved 👏

Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity has been awarded £24,900 in funding from NHS Charities Together to transform an underused green space on the grounds of Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT into an accessible, inclusive and biodiverse sanctuary.

The project will improve accessibility by connecting benches and key features with tarmac pathways, to ensure safe use for people with mobility issues and year-round access. We will also install a third accessible bench to create more seating for reflection, breaks and social connection. Meanwhile, planting wildflowers will enhance biodiversity and help visitors reconnect with nature.

We are one of 15 NHS charities across the UK to receive a share of £500,000 in funding from NHS Charities Together to invest in creating and improving green spaces.

Altogether, this will create a welcoming environment that supports relaxation, recovery and wellbeing for our patients, visitors and wider community🧡

Happy 🧡

Today is a celebration of the little things that leave a lasting impact. A friendly smile, a thoughtful message or a quick check-in. Random acts of kindness can truly brighten someone’s whole day.

This week, we’ve been leaving little bits of joy around our sites for our patients and staff to discover. If you’re visiting us, keep an eye out — you might just find a surprise waiting for you ✨

With the help of his beloved dog, a local Hadfield man living with stage four has donated £1,000 to our Macmillan Advanced Cancer Nurses🧡

After being diagnosed just over a year ago with advanced prostate cancer, Neil was determined to prevent others from facing a late diagnosis. Inspired by Chris Hoy's 'Tour de 4' campaign, Neil launched 'Walk-4-4' awareness walks to raise both awareness and funds for charities which support people living with cancer.

Rafferty the dog has supported Neil on many of his awareness walks, becoming something of a local celebrity. Rafferty, dressed up as Santa, also featured on festive biscuits which Neil sold over the Christmas period with the help of local businesses.

Neil wanted his first £1,000 raised to go directly to the nurses who support people with cancer every single day 🥰

He said, “The advanced cancer nurses from the Tameside Macmillan Unit have been by my side every step of the way. This £1,000 donation is my way of saying thank you, but it’s just the beginning.”
