Today, we celebrated our newly refurbished garden in the MacMillan Unit 🌿

Our community has truly come together to transform this space into a calm and relaxing haven for our patients living with cancer.

The garden isn’t just a peaceful place to sit and unwind — we also use it to run our LEAP patient gardening support group, giving patients the opportunity to connect, share experiences and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors together 🤍

This refurbishment was made possible thanks to the incredible support of our supporters, corporate volunteers and some small grants — but, importantly, our amazing patients and their families who have fundraised and donated to our Cancer Fund.

We’re so grateful to everyone who helped bring this special space to life. Together, you’ve created somewhere that will make a real difference to our patients, their families and our community ✨

13.1 miles DONE 🎉

A huge well done to Dr Jack Sims, Consultant Paediatrician here at Tameside Hospital, who took on the Manchester Half Marathon yesterday.

Jack ran every mile for a cause close to his heart — our Paediatric Diabetes Fund, which helps provide support, activities and opportunities for young people living with Type 1 diabetes.

A huge congratulations to Michelle, one of our Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists, who has completed her challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain, in support of the Macmillan Unit 🥰

Having seen first-hand the difference the Unit’s care, support and wellbeing services make to cancer patients and their loved ones, Michelle wanted to do something to give back.

And she certainly made every step count, raising an amazing £1,045! 🎉

A massive thank you to Michelle for taking on such an incredible challenge, and to everyone who supported and donated along the way🧡

This week, the new Women’s Health Unit opened at Tameside Hospital, creating a modern, calm and dignified space for women receiving care🧡

The transformation has been made possible in part by an incredible £165,000 donation to Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity from the League of Friends of Tameside Hospital, thanks to the remarkable legacy of their volunteer, Mary Goodliffe LP.

Mary's legacy will help women and families across our community receive care in a space designed around their comfort, privacy and dignity for many years to come.

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome a lovely team of volunteers from L'Oréal Trafford DC. The group spent the day supporting our Macmillan Cancer Centre and what a day they had 🧡

Steph Gooder, Lead Cancer Nurse said "we can’t thank the L'Oréal team enough for everything they did for us on Thursday.

The garden looks absolutely beautiful and will be a much more pleasant space for patients and their families. It will also enable us to run garden groups more effectively for our patients, which can have such a positive impact on health and well-being. The improvements are truly transformational, and it's all thanks to you and your wonderful team.

The Bee Seen, Get Screened stand helped spread an important message to our staff, encouraging that they can take time away from work to attend cancer screening appointments. This supports our ambition to diagnose cancer early and could potentially be lifesaving.

The pamper packs you helped create will be given to patients at their first chemotherapy appointment, making what can be a stressful day a little easier and more welcoming. Plus, having a beautiful garden to look out on will be so lovely for our chemotherapy patients".

"When patients and families need support most, the Macmillan Unit are there for them"🧡

That's why Michelle, a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, is taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain, on 30 August 2026.

Michelle is raising funds to help continue the excellent care, support and wellbeing services available to cancer patients across Tameside and Glossop. Having seen first-hand the impact these services have on patients and their loved ones, she's determined to make every step count!

Thanks to the incredible support of our fundraisers and donors, families across Tameside and Glossop facing cancer will now have access to a unique new service through Featherbed Tales at Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT 🧡

We're proud to be the first NHS charity and trust to fund the digital storytelling platform, which allows patients to capture photographs, videos, personal stories and even their voice, creating treasured keepsakes for loved ones to revisit for years to come.

Cancer affects whole families. Through this charity-funded initiative, patients and those closest to them, will have the opportunity to preserve precious memories, share messages of love and create lasting connections during some of life's most challenging moments 🥺
