"When patients and families need support most, the Macmillan Unit are there for them"🧡

That's why Michelle, a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, is taking on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain, on 30 August 2026.

Michelle is raising funds to help continue the excellent care, support and wellbeing services available to cancer patients across Tameside and Glossop. Having seen first-hand the impact these services have on patients and their loved ones, she's determined to make every step count!

Thanks to the incredible support of our fundraisers and donors, families across Tameside and Glossop facing cancer will now have access to a unique new service through Featherbed Tales at Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT 🧡

We're proud to be the first NHS charity and trust to fund the digital storytelling platform, which allows patients to capture photographs, videos, personal stories and even their voice, creating treasured keepsakes for loved ones to revisit for years to come.

Cancer affects whole families. Through this charity-funded initiative, patients and those closest to them, will have the opportunity to preserve precious memories, share messages of love and create lasting connections during some of life's most challenging moments 🥺

This is the impact your support makes possible. Not only helping enhance patient care, but providing comfort, connection and memories that can be treasured forever.

Going the extra mile for Critical Care 🧡

A huge thank you to our amazing Critical Care team who took on the Four Meres sponsored walk on Sunday, completing an incredible 16-mile route through Saddleworth to raise funds for our unit.

Organised by Sarah Penkett, Advanced Critical Care Practitioner, and Paul Gill, Critical Care Research Nurse, the team tackled the scenic route through Friarmere, Shawmere, Lordsmere and Quickmere, showing fantastic determination and team spirit along the way 🥰

We're delighted to share that they've already raised an incredible £1,500 to support patients and families receiving care on our Critical Care Unit.

Thank you to everyone who took part, donated and cheered the team on! 🎉

A huge thank you to the children of St Mary’s C of E Primary School, Droylsden, and the Mothers’ Union for donating 150 hygiene care packs to support patients in our Emergency Department 🧡

The project, which celebrates the 150th anniversary of both St Mary's School and the Mothers' Union, saw pupils raise funds, purchase essential items and work alongside Mothers’ Union members to create packs that will provide comfort and dignity to patients when they need it most.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and commitment to helping others in our community 🌟

On Monday, we were delighted to officially open the brand-new sensory room on the Children's Unit at Tameside Hospital, part of Tameside & Glossop IC FT ✨

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, local businesses such as Equans, and volunteers, we've transformed the space into a modern, welcoming and accessible environment where children and young people can play, explore, relax and feel more comfortable during their hospital stay.

Every donation, fundraising event and act of kindness has helped make this project possible, and we couldn't be more grateful to everyone who played a part🧡

We were also thrilled to celebrate with young patient Mila, who helped cut the ribbon, and had a very special surprise guest, SpongeBob, who brought plenty of smiles to the day!

Thank you for helping us create spaces that make a real difference for our patients and their families. Together, you're helping us do so much more for our patients and their families 🥰
