Age UK Tameside

Age UK Tameside Age UK Tameside is committed to serving the needs of older people across Tameside.

Since 1974 Age Concern Tameside has been committed to serving the needs of older people in the community to remain active, maintain independence and improve quality of life. Although we remain an independent local charity, we officially became Age UK Tameside on 1st April 2011 and are proud to be affiliated to Age UK. Working together in a strong partnership we actively promote the well-being of p

eople in later life with national and local campaigns, influencing the media, by fundraising and through our range of products and services. Age UK is for all of us, because age is a part of life, and we celebrate the wisdom, the calm and the confidence age can bring.

Our MCST group created some fantastic artwork for Art Discussion Week! 🎨

Inspired by iconic artists L. S. Lowry, Edvard Munch, Leonardo da Vinci and Johannes Vermeer, everyone worked on their own fantastic masterpieces full of colour, creativity and personality.

Take a look at their amazing artwork - everyone had a brilliant afternoon getting creative together!

Mel, our Falls Prevention Coordinator, and Kate, our Next Steps Engagement Worker, recently visited Droylsden Academy to deliver assemblies to Year 10 and Year 11 students.

The sessions aimed to raise awareness of the work we do at Age UK Tameside, encouraging young people to stay healthy now to help reduce the risk of falls and other health conditions later in life. We also wanted to help students better understand the experiences of older people within their families and communities, and how they can support them.

It was a pleasure to visit the school and speak with such engaged students. Thank you for having us!

Our Monday Munchers recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to Hollywood Bowl.

We always have a great time bowling - it’s a fun way for those who haven’t tried it before to experience something new, it keeps us active, and there’s plenty of laughter and socialising along the way.

Three of our members went bowling for the very first time and said they had an amazing time. We’re already looking forward to booking our return visit!

If you’d like to join our Monday Munchers sessions and take part in the wide variety of activities on offer, simply come along to our Centre on a Monday at 11:30am. It’s just £3 and includes brunch.

There’s no need to book - if you have any questions take a look at the leaflet below or give us a call on 0161 308 5000.

Last Thursday, we hosted our ‘Fit N Fab Falls Prevention Conference’ at Stalybridge Academy HQ.

It was a fantastic, fun-filled day featuring insightful talks from Live Active, Be Well Tameside, and Nicola Pennington. Guests also enjoyed a delicious lunch, followed by taster sessions including Tai Chi, chair-based exercise and Functional Fitness MOTs.

A big thank you to Concord Mobility, Be Well Tameside, Message in a Bottle, Telecare Tameside, Home Instead, Live Active, The Stroke Association and The Carers Centre for hosting information stands and sharing valuable resources with our visitors.

We hope everyone enjoyed the conference as much as we did and now feels better informed about how to thrive in later life.

Last week, our Tai Chi instructor, Richard Jones, celebrated World Tai Chi and Qigong Day - an annual global event that raises awareness of the many health benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong.

To mark the occasion, Richard led a demonstration in Manor Park, Glossop, which was attended by some of our clients.

Tai Chi is a wonderful way to improve strength, balance and mobility, while also helping to reduce stress. It’s one of the many classes we’re proud to offer at Studio 131.

Studio 131 is a dedicated exercise space at our centre in Ashton for people aged 50 and over living in Tameside. Annual membership costs just £7, and classes are either free or available for a small fee.

For more information or to register, please call us on 0161 308 5000.
