Thanks to everyone who came and helped create our Harvest Festival this morning! Thanks to Jean and Florence for their creative Vegetable People; for the Bell Ringers; to those who made sweet treats for us all to enjoy; and for all those who brought tinned and dried foodstuffs for the local foodbank - we delivered four full carriers!

We heard a reading from the Book of Exodus; as well as poems from Iona Community and thought about the all those gifts we can bring to church, and to our community around us. We also reflected on the imagery in our stained glass windows - about abundance, about faith, standing firm, taking time out, and how all are truly welcome.

Our next service, in November, will be for remembrance.

On Sunday we will celebrate Harvest Festival, and do so with a Harvest of Talents!

For those members of the congregation who wish to, there will be a change to share their talent - whether it is baking, music, making Lego, sewing, poetry - as we think about what we can bring to our church, our community and our families.

Our sermon will include a reflection on our shared values as Unitarians and Free Christians, and what they, and Brookfield, can mean to us and to others.

There will be a collection of tinned and dry food to give to the Food Bank at Tesco.

As usual, the bells will be rung, and there be tea, coffee, and other goodies after the service.

All are truly welcome ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

So that's it for this year - 2026 Heritage Open Days are over. We can all do the washing up and relax!

It was joyous to welcome people into Brookfield over the weekend to explore our rich, and long history, as well as to explore the Unitarian faith, and what that means.

Brookfield has been a part of community life in Gorton since 1871 - and our forebears at the Chapel in the Vale since 1703 - long may we continue!

As ever, thanks to the congregation for working so hard to have church opened, for all the mountains of cake and coffee; to the bell-ringers for ringing the bells and patience in showing them to visitors; and to Gorton - to the community of Gorton - for visiting Brookfield to stand on holy ground.

Bell Ringing is on every Friday at 7.30 - it's free and no experience is required!

Sunday Services are held on the Second Sunday of the Month at 10am.

All are truly welcome.๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Todayโ€™s service we thought about heritage, archaeology and faith, and all the different expressions of faith being reflections of the one same God. Also how weโ€™re connected to our ancestors, and that ritual and religion, like story telling, is what makes us human.

It was an opportunity to explore archaeological tools and artefacts - some of which were thousands of years old!

Join us at 10am every second Sunday of the month. (Next service 11th October).

It was lovely welcoming our community into Brookfield Church today for our Heritage Open Day. The bells were rung - with an opportunity to go and see them! - the organ was played (I think the organist at one point was playing music from Star Trek); and an awful lot of cake was eaten! There was even a chance to make giant bubbles!

Don't forget: Tomorrow at 10am is our Sunday Service which will be led by Anthony will have as its theme the Spirituality of Archaeology.

Bells will be rung before and after the service, and the organ will be in use as well.

Refreshments after the service, and a chance to explore the church and some its treasures.

All are truly welcome. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

On Sunday at 10am at Brookfield Church we will be taking a good look at our East Window, and trying to answer the questions: "What does it mean? And is it still relevant to us in 2026?"

The window was designed by Thomas Worthington, the architect of our Church and made in London by the Rolls-Royce of stained glass makers, Lavers, Barraud & Westlake of London.

It is stunningly beautiful, especially if the sun is in the right direction!

There will be a reading from Psalm 122; a chance to relax and listen to a story; readings and poems about stained glass; and a chance to sit and pray or meditate and light candles.

The bells will be run before the service.

The hymns will be:

Blessed City, Heavenly Salem
Now let us sing, in loving celebration
Fill thou my life, Oh Lord my God, in every part with praise
Love Divine

The vesper will be: As Each Day Ends, May I have Lived. (a new one to us)

There will be tea, coffee, and other refreshments after the service.

All are truly welcome.๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Brookfield Church stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in Berlin, and around the world, in expressing horror at the attack on Berlin Pride.

As Unitarians, we believe that every person is made in the image of God and contains that of God within them. We welcome, support, and uphold all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

We condemn this attack on Berlin Pride, and believe that we all need to work together to challenge the sins of homophobia and violence.

We stand with our LGBTQ+ siblings in grief. But we also stand alongside them in solidarity, offering a place of hope, of refuge, and as an ally against all forms of discrimination and those systems which would 'other', demonise, hate or scape-goat those who are members of minorities.

Our prayer this day is for the LGBTQ+ community world wide.

Life-giving God,
in You we live and move and have our being.
We thank You that You made each one of us unique,
in Your own image,
as Your beloved child.
For we are all fearfully, and wonderfully made.
Unique and holy.
A special creation.

We trust that You love us for all that we are,
and all that we can be,
through the grace of the Spirit and the example of Jesus.
Help us to glorify You,
by living more fully in that knowledge
- for ourselves,
for everyone You entrust to our care,
and everyone with whom we struggle to live in harmony.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,
who came to live among us
so we might live more abundantly.
Amen
