The sale of Brook Road Methodist Church has now been completed. It is of great regret that we were not successful in raising the finances required.
Urmston Musical Theatre/Urmston Theatre Appeal worked tirelessly on private fundraising and grant applications over the last 12 months and we had over £300k towards the purchase, sadly around a third of its sale price.
Our vision of bringing Urmston its own dedicated theatre has created huge public interest and has the support of our councillors and MP. Over 1100 local people took our online survey, it showed 96% of you want it to happen.
So, we will continue our efforts to find, or build, a suitable venue that can support our local arts for the whole community to enjoy.
We do have a plan B in the pipeline, which we hope to bring good news of in the future.
The relevant parties will release further information regarding the future for Brook Road Church in due course.
I’d like to thank everyone involved throughout this process, the Rev Ian Kemp, Alan Pickwick (UMT Honorary Treasurer), Bill Palmer and Canterbury Players, Joanne Harding and other Labour Councillors, Kate Green MP, Matthew Kelly, Trafford Council, Stretford Public Hall, National Lottery, THT Fund and everyone else I have discussed our vision with.
