From today, 1 October, changes to prisoner release arrangements begin under the new Progression Model.

We know that hearing that someone who has harmed you may be released earlier than expected can feel deeply unsettling and frightening. You do not have to manage that uncertainty alone.

A new, free Victim Support Offender Release Helpline is available for anyone seeking information, reassurance or support in relation to an offender’s release under the Progression Model.

📞 0808 168 9280

Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, excluding bank holidays

The helpline can provide emotional support and practical advice and help you understand what support may be available. It cannot provide individual release dates or specific case information; eligible victims will receive these through their Victim Liaison Officer or the appropriate official route.

🏃‍♀️ 10K for Survivors 🏃‍♀️

This Sunday, 13th July, one of our incredible managers is lacing up her running shoes to complete the Wilmslow 10K for Stockport Without Abuse.

Why? Because every time someone arrives at our refuge, they deserve to feel safe, welcome, and seen—especially after making such a courageous decision to leave abuse behind.

She’s raising money to fund essential welcome packs for the individuals and families who turn to us in their darkest hour. From a clean set of bedding to children’s pyjamas, a toothbrush, shampoo, towels — your donation helps make that first night a little softer.

👉 Can you sponsor her 10K and help us provide a better start for someone beginning again?

Every step she runs is for someone starting over. 💜

It’s the last day of this year's 16 Days of Activism, and it’s time to talk about victim blaming.

This happens when abusers try to shift blame for their actions onto their victims. It makes a person feel responsible for the abuse they are suffering and puts them off reporting abuse or fleeing relationships.

However, victim blaming is a wider societal problem. People need to recognise that blaming survivors is never okay and that this behaviour only helps to empower abusers.

On day 15 of the 16 Days of Activism, we’re taking a closer look at threats and intimidation.

This type of abuse can leave someone feeling terrified and at risk of serious harm. Threats can be made directly at survivors or their loved ones, but either way they are used by abusers to control their victims.

It's Day 14 of the 16 Days of Activism 2024, and we’re focusing on Intimate Partner Violence.

IPV is any form of violence that occurs between partners, and it can happen in any type of relationship. Everyone should be safe in their relationship but unfortunately many women face violence from their intimate partner.

It’s the thirteenth day of ! Today, SWA is shining the spotlight on digital abuse.
Digital abuse occurs when an abuser uses technology to control or harm someone. It can involve online harassment, making threats, or even monitoring a person's social media. Many types of abuse, including those that we've already discussed, can be pursued through digital means. Making digital abuse an increasingly serious problem in the modern world.

On day 12 of , we’re talking about verbal abuse and its role in domestic abuse.

🎄 Christmas Gift Appeal 🎁
For many of the families and individuals we support, Christmas can be a particularly difficult time. The ongoing cost-of-living crisis, coupled with the devastating impact of domestic abuse, means that many are unable to afford even the basics—let alone gifts to celebrate the season.

We want to help bring a little joy this Christmas, but we can’t do it without you. We're looking for new gifts for all ages—not just for children—so everyone we support can feel the warmth and magic of the season.

💝 You can support us by:
🌟 Donating online via our website: www.stockportwithoutabuse.org.uk
🌟 Supporting with new, unwrapped gifts. (Please note: we cannot accept used items.)
Every donation, big or small, will make a real difference to someone facing an incredibly tough time. Thank you for helping to spread kindness and hope this Christmas!
