This coming Friday pur sweet Asha will have been with us 6 months to the day. She was brought to us after being attacked by a sparrowhawk, she had an injured foot that never healed properly that has now left her with a club foot, she was missing a good few wing feathers and all of her tail feathers had been ripped out causing so much damage to the follicles that her tail has only just started to actually grow back 6 months later. Due to the extent of the injuries she suffered unfortunately asha is unreleasable as that foot and not having a tail seriously compromises her out in the wild as having no tail has a big effect on there flight and her foot means she can no longer perch properly in trees and in windy conditions she wouldn't be abke to grip properly to bolster herself against the wind. She is such an amazing bird and we love her so much ❤️ but its been a good while since she got to feature on our page so I just wanted to update you all on how shes getting on.

Remember Phineas, the tiny gold finch hatchling that was brought to us just a hours to a day old, naked except a little grey fuzz and not much bigger than a penny. Now look at him, how bloody handsome is he. Little phin had to be hand reared and due to that has formed very strong attachment especially with my eldest daughter and has absoloutly 0 fear of humans which makes release quite unsafe for him. He was not just the first ever gold finch we've ever worked with but the first bird that wasnt a pigeon that we've ever worked with and we honestly didnt think he would make it through his first few days but here he is, and he has such a huge personality for such a small bird.

Meet baby Taro. This sweet little one was found wandering in the middle of a dual carriageway in Doncaster and was literally at deaths door when brought to us. This sweet little baby had a pretty nasty case of canker with a big chunk of it almost completely covering and blocking his airway making it incredibly difficult to breathe and leaving him literally gasping and fighting for every breath. You can even see the canker in the first photo without me even needing to hold his beak open. I was honestly totally out of my depth with this one so I got help from another rehabber friend Manda Clayton who amazingly managed to successfully remove the big lump of canker that was blocking poor taros airway, and it wasnt an easy job for her we thought a few times little one was going to die on us during the process especially as she was so bone thin and weak to top it off, but she managed to get the canker out and we was able to get some critical care formula and medication administered and literally just hours later with still a long way to go little Taro was like a totally different bird, bright eyed and alert the total opposite to that morning. After 5 days of canker medication and 2 weeks in quarantine sweet little one is doing amazing. The canker is all cleared up now and he's out of quarantine and making friends. He still has a bit to go as he was so underweight and bony, but were fattening him up and he seems a very happy little chappy now and is becoming more and more confident each day. A huge huge thank you to manda for your help, i feel this post would of unfortunately been an entirely different one without your help.
