Maltby Unites to Create an Easter Celebration to Remember

It’s amazing what can be achieved when a community comes together — and this Easter, Maltby showed just how powerful that spirit can be.

Over 200 children and their families gathered on Easter Monday for a completely free event organised by local community group Maltby Together. Thanks to the incredible support from local people, businesses and volunteers, it was a day packed with laughter, entertainment, and community pride.

The day wouldn’t have been possible without the generous contributions of many.
Food Aware CIC kindly donated Easter eggs, snacks, and toys, captured in a wonderful moment featured in the Rotherham Advertiser. Jake Richards MP showed his support with some Easter egg donations, while Maltby Town Councillors — Donna Sutton, Jennifer Andrews, Keith Stringer and Pauline Heaps — gave their time and resources to help throughout the event.

Local businesses stepped up too. Fiveways Convenience Store Maltby provided Easter eggs for the children’s dance-off competitions, and Julia Jones from Tesco donated Easter eggs and additional support. Bill Spilsbury also kindly donated Easter eggs to the event.

Entertainment was at the heart of the celebration. DJs Mike Stark and Lewis Ainsworth delivered a brilliant disco at a reduced rate to support the charity. Face painting was provided by , who also gave their services at a discounted cost to ensure children enjoyed free face painting throughout the day. A huge thank you also goes to Charlotte, the Easter Raving Bunny, who volunteered her time to keep the kids smiling all afternoon!

A special mention goes to Lees Decorating Service - Professional painter and decorator, who not only funded the DJs but also provided additional Easter eggs, sweets, chocolates and sponsored the raffle prizes.
Maltby Together themselves ensured no child was left out, donating free-from Easter eggs for children with allergies — another thoughtful touch that shows the group’s real care for the community.

Thanks must also go to Gordon Waterhouse and the amazing team at The Slip - Maltby Progressive Club for hosting the event and supporting every step of the way.

The success of the event, now featured in the Rotherham Advertiser, proves just what can be achieved when passionate people and organisations work hand-in-hand to support their community.

Maltby Together, alongside all of these amazing partners, made sure that the children of Maltby had an Easter to remember — filled with fun, joy, and unity.

Maltby & Hellaby Conservatives – Playing Politics with Our Community?

It’s come to our attention that Maltby & Hellaby Conservatives have blocked Maltby Community Voice from engaging with their page – just as they said they would if we commented further.

Let’s be clear: Maltby Community Voice exists to stand up for the people, to ask the hard questions, and to challenge actions that don’t put our town first. When political groups shut down debate and silence local voices, it’s not transparency – it’s control.

Many are starting to see this for what it is – a blatant attempt to use Maltby West for political gain. By pushing to divide our town under the guise of “improvement,” they’re hiding the real costs: fewer services, more staff cuts, and less community unity.

We won’t be silenced. We will keep speaking the truth and standing up for all of Maltby – East and West – without playing politics.

Stay tuned. Stay informed. And always question what’s really going on.

MALTBY – DON’T FALL FOR THE MISINFORMATION

Action for Maltby’s claim that we are publishing Misinformation which couldn’t be further from the truth. Below are corrections to their mistakes.

Simon Ball and friends are pushing the idea of splitting Maltby into two councils – but let’s look at the facts before we make a decision that could seriously damage our town.

Here’s the truth behind AFM’s claims:

1️⃣ Councillors
There are 8 West councillors and 10 East, which is balanced based on registered voters – not just geography. It’s fair and legally set.

2️⃣ Representation
If spending isn’t being challenged, that’s down to the West councillors already elected – not a reason to divide the town.

3️⃣ Double the Costs
A split means two councils, two sets of wages, pensions, admin and office rents. Costs won’t go down – they’ll go up, and you’ll pay more.

4️⃣ Accountability & Data
GDPR laws already protect information. If you want answers, speak to your councillors – they already have access to the info.

5️⃣ Events
AFM say both councils could “still work together” on events. So why split? It’s a false economy. You’re not saving anything – just creating more cost, paperwork and confusion.

6️⃣ Where the Money Goes
AFM don’t mention that the council funds grants for local groups, defibrillators, speed signs, and lots more. The council isn’t a business – it can only spend what it raises.

7️⃣ Staff Jobs at Risk
AFM constantly attack staff costs – yet two West councillors actually helped employ the most recent staff member. If they split the council, that person could be the first to lose their job. This was done by the previous council.

8️⃣ The Main Ground
Splitting Maltby won’t save the main ground – it’ll put it at greater risk with less accountability and more blame-shifting between two councils. The tax payer will bear the brunt of it.

9️⃣ Higher Costs for Everyone
Two councils = more overheads, higher precepts (council tax), more admin. No one wins – we all pay more.

This plan to divide Maltby won’t fix anything – it’ll just weaken the community, cost more, and put services and events at greater risk.

Let’s work together – not split apart.
Keep Maltby United. Don’t sign the petition

Maltby – Think Before You Sign

A petition is circulating that could divide Maltby into two separate councils – and we urge everyone to understand the real consequences before signing.

Maltby is already ranked in the bottom 6% for deprivation across the country, with the East Ward being the most affected. If Simon Ball- west ward councillor gets his way and splits the town, it will hit the most vulnerable even harder.

Let’s not forget:
We already have West Ward councillors on Maltby Town Council. If they were truly working in the best interests of the West, would this proposal even be necessary? This is a political stunt by the Hellaby and maltby west conservatives all about control. Division isn’t the answer — better representation and unity is.

Here’s what’s at stake:

Maltby Miners Recreation Ground could be lost
Staffing cuts across key local services
Community events like the fireworks display, Christmas lights switch-on, and pensioners’ dinners could disappear – simply because the money won’t be there
The town’s strength and voice will be weakened, not strengthened
This proposal doesn’t unite our town – it divides it, damages it, and hurts the very people who rely on support the most.

Think about what Maltby will lose if this goes ahead. Don’t let our community be torn apart.

Today, the Prime Minister announced the biggest upgrade in defence spending since the end of the Cold War. The first priority of any government must be to ensure national security and support our armed forces. In an increasingly dangerous world, boosting defence spending is a necessity.

The government will pay for this by cutting foreign aid. This is the right priority. Our foreign policy must further our national interests. And the threats from abroad are too great to ignore.

I want this money to be invested in the new threats we face, in terms of cyber attacks, but also to invest in our armed forces here at home. Whenever possible, each penny should be spent here - creating British jobs, supporting British manufacturing and supporting British workers.

The Ukrainian people continue to suffer three years after the illegal invasion. We must search for peace. Nobody wants war. But the best way in these circumstances to avoid war is to show strength. I’m pleased the government is doing this, and I will support their plan.

The Truth Behind the Free Let Debate – What Really Happened at Maltby Town Council

At the most recent full Maltby Town Council meeting, a discussion took place regarding a free let for a children’s disco organised by Maltby Together. However, despite the claims made by Action for Maltby, here’s what really happened.

When the request was brought up, Cllr Lynda Stables and Cllr John Lines immediately questioned whether it should be approved, arguing that Maltby Together wasn’t a registered charity. By this point, the public in attendance were already aware of what the free let was for and who had made the request.

As expected, opposition came from Action for Maltby and their associates, who were very vocal in their objections. Stables and Lines continued to argue against it, citing vague ‘rules’ as their reasoning. However, when Cllr Pauline Heaps pointed out that the event was purely for the benefit of local children, members of the public who had no political allegiance became visibly frustrated, with many expressing outrage at the opposition.

In what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to stall the decision, Stables and Lines suggested adjourning the discussion until the next monthly meeting—which conveniently would have been after the event was supposed to take place. Seeing this, some councillors offered to personally cover the cost rather than let the event be delayed.

Then, Cllr Sutton stepped in to save the day—she looked up the official rules for a free let on her phone and clarified the matter. With the correct information now available, a vote was called. Faced with clear public anger and overwhelming support from other councillors, Stables and Lines were forced to vote in favour.

Despite this victory, Maltby Together ultimately declined the free let, shocked at the lengths some councillors would go to try and prevent something positive for local children.

Meanwhile, Action for Maltby and their allies have also had to change their false narrative regarding Cllr Stables. Having previously pushed an outright lie about a non-existent harassment order, they’ve now shifted to claims of ‘bullying’—despite CCTV footage and police findings proving no such thing occurred.

The truth is clear: certain councillors and their associates would rather play political games than support events for children—but the people of Maltby are seeing it for what it is.
