🍃 A little BEAR Essex update… 🧸💛

Although BEAR Essex won’t officially launch until September 2026, there’s still plenty happening behind the scenes as I continue building knowledge, resources and support for SEND families across Essex.

This week I completed another Open University learning course as part of my ongoing CPD (continued professional development):

🩷 Supporting Children’s Development
(OpenLearn Cymru / The Open University)

While this course wasn’t specifically focused on EHCPs or SEND law, it explored how children develop from early years through to school leaving age, including learning, behaviour, relationships and individual needs.

One of the most valuable reminders was that every child develops differently. Understanding those differences — and recognising the many factors that influence a child’s learning and wellbeing — helps us create more inclusive, supportive environments where children can thrive.

For me, this learning links closely with the heart of BEAR Essex:

💚 Belong – helping families feel understood and included
🧡 Empower – building confidence through knowledge
🤍 Advise – sharing trusted information and guidance
🩷 Resource – signposting support and practical tools

Every course completed adds another piece to the bigger picture as I continue preparing BEAR Essex to support SEND and EHCP families across Essex.

Thank you for following along on the journey. 🐻💛

🐻✨ A little BEAR Essex update… ✨🐻

Although BEAR Essex won’t officially launch until September 2026, there’s still lots happening behind the scenes as I continue building knowledge, resources and support for SEND families across Essex 💛

This week I completed two 8-week Open University learning courses as part of ongoing CPD (continued professional development):

📚 Understanding Autism
📖 Developing Reading for Pleasure (RfP)

While these courses aren’t directly about EHCPs or SEND law, they absolutely connect to the bigger picture — understanding children’s experiences, supporting engagement, creating inclusive environments, and helping every child feel seen, supported and able to thrive.

The autism course definitely had a few “teaching grandma to suck eggs” moments 😅 as we’re already a proudly neurodiverse household with my son diagnosed ASD — but it was still incredibly valuable to explore wider perspectives, research and approaches.

The Reading for Pleasure course was also a lovely reminder of how important connection, curiosity and enjoyment are in learning — especially for children who may struggle in traditional educational settings.

Every bit of learning helps shape the vision behind BEAR Essex:
💛 Belong
💛 Empower
💛 Advise
💛 Resource

Thank you for following along while this community slowly grows behind the scenes 🐻✨
