🐝 Buzzing with Learning on World Bee Day! 🍯
On World Bee Day, our member Julia visited the children at Little Darwin’s Nursery to introduce them to the wonderful world of bees and pollinators.
The children learned all about hive structure, how long bees live, and the incredibly important role they play in our food supply. Julia also spoke about how pesticides and herbicides can harm bees, helping to encourage future generations to think more carefully about protecting our environment. 🌼
The session included learning about bee anatomy, where wax comes from, and how bees collect pollen using the tiny hairs covering their bodies — even their eyes! To help bring the facts to life, Julia used fun and creative comparisons to explain just how many bees can live in a hive.
The highlight of the day was tasting honey and exploring real honeycomb firsthand. The children loved trying on bee suits, buzzing around like bees, and handling bee-themed cuddly toys while learning all about bee anatomy. 🐝
Julia also visited St Leonards School the following day, continuing to spread awareness about the importance of pollinators across different age groups. Educating children about bees is so important, and it’s wonderful to show that beekeeping can be enjoyed by people of all ages — not just as a retirement hobby, but as something the whole family can enjoy together.
We look forward to visiting more schools and nurseries throughout the year to continue spreading awareness of the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our world. 💛
