💉 Winter flu and Covid-19 vaccinations

West Northamptonshire Council is encouraging eligible residents to book their free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations ahead of winter.

Eligibility differs for each vaccine, so please check which you’re entitled to. You don’t need to wait for an invitation before booking.

West Northamptonshire Council’s Coat Collection Campaign is back, helping people access free warm coats during the colder months.

Have a winter coat you no longer need? Donations of adult and children’s coats are welcome—please make sure they are clean, warm and in good condition.

💛 Need a coat? Visit a Customer Hub and ask a customer adviser. Coats will be available free of charge between October and February.

The survey covers everything from staying active and eating well to stopping smoking, managing stress and feeling connected to others.

🌺 Remembrance Sunday – 8 November 2026 🌺

Please join us in Middleton Cheney for our annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and commemorations, organised by the Parish Council in partnership with the Middleton Cheney and District Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The parade will be led by the Laidlaw Memorial Banbury and District Caledonian Pipe Band. Residents are warmly invited to join the parade or attend the commemorations.

📍 9:15am – Form up at Archery Road
⛪ 10:00am – Service of Remembrance at All Saints Church
🌺 11:00am – Two minutes’ silence at the War Shrine, followed by the laying of wreaths

🚧 Temporary road closures: 8:45am–12 noon

Closures will affect Astrop Road, Main Road, Mansion Hill, Queen Street, High Street, Rectory Lane and Archery Road.

There will be no through access from Queen Street to Church Lane during the closure. This route is not part of the planned diversion. Please plan your journeys accordingly and follow the directions of the marshals.

COMING TO MIDDLETON CHENEY THIS NOVEMBER

Chenderit School presents 'The Burial at Thebes: Sophocles' Antigone', an ambitious student-led production coming to All Saints Church this November.

Written almost 2,500 years ago, Sophocles’ Antigone remains one of the most powerful stories in world theatre. In Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heaney’s acclaimed translation, this ancient Greek tragedy explores questions that continue to matter today: What do we owe the dead? When should conscience challenge authority? And what happens when leaders refuse to listen?

Following a devastating civil war, the new King Creon decrees that one of Antigone’s brothers shall receive an honoured burial, while the other must remain unburied as a traitor. Antigone refuses to accept his law, setting herself on a collision course with the King, the state and the city around her.

A story of grief, conscience and the limits of power.

The production will be staged in an intimate traverse format inside the beautiful, Grade I listed All Saints Church. With audiences seated on two sides of the playing space, the staging places spectators at the heart of this timeless conflict.

Created and performed by Chenderit students, the production brings together young performers and a student creative team in a collaborative project that celebrates local talent and gives audiences the opportunity to experience classical theatre in a remarkable historic setting right here in the village.

Home-Start West Northants is looking for volunteers to help parents with young children through difficult times. A listening ear, encouragement and practical support can make a real difference.

There are opportunities to suit different schedules:

Middleton Cheney Parish Council is aware of concerns circulating about a reported incident at Astrop Park.

We have contacted the PFA to ask whether any relevant CCTV footage is available and requested that any footage or information they hold be shared directly with the police, if this has not already been done.

The details remain unconfirmed. Please avoid sharing speculation or identifying individuals on social media. Anyone with first-hand information about the reported incident should contact the police directly.

📣 Banbury Lane planning application – Parish Council update

Middleton Cheney Parish Council maintains its objection to application 2025/3202/MAO for up to 165 homes on land at Banbury Lane.

We plan to address West Northamptonshire Council’s Non-Strategic Planning Committee on Thursday 8 October, setting out our concerns and asking members to refuse the application.

Our concerns include highway safety, safe walking routes to Chenderit School, pressure on local infrastructure, cumulative development impacts and the proposed location outside the village’s settlement boundary.

For clarity, our conditional willingness to consider future ownership and maintenance of the public open spaces does not mean we support the development.

The meeting starts at 10am, with the application listed as agenda item 9. The final decision rests with WNC’s planning committee.

We will update residents following the meeting.
