You know when you’ve arrived at Bulter‘s Lock car park because you have these magnificent borders to greet you. Seeded and cared for by Lynn and Paul Foll for years! They have also continued to donate seeds and plants to Ray Mill Island. In 2 years we have significantly increased the biodiversity of the island= greater diversity of plants supports a greater diversity of insects 🐞 , birds🐦 , bees 🐝 & 🦇 bats on the island. 🏝️ we are also campaigning for the innate right for cleaner rivers to support the life and river users. Friends of Ray Mill Island, Paddleboard Maidenhead , Wild Maidenhead, and Windsor Riverwatch collaborating together for our future generations.

So sweet the Eco Club at Cookham Dean Primary had asked for Tara Crist of the Friends of Ray Mill Island team to come and talk about the whys and what of what we have been doing on the island. Nearly 2 years now…. The positive and lasting effects of the planting a far great variation of plants ( many native) on our insect, 🐞 birds 🦢 and bat 🦇 population, thanks to .uk planning and guidance. The more volunteers and more donations we receive the greater the impact!. 🏝️ Big thanks to , David Walker, & all our volunteers and donors.

Again amazing how hard and how much we can do collectively in 2 hours. Tara brought some plants (+ 5 more pallets) with donated money from .haven.garden at centre. Great value and filled the gaps as we cleared another area. Let’s see if Mick’s dogwood barrier can keep the children off the plants & ferns ! Super Sue was amazing at giving the ever increasing plants in our new nursery the TLC they needed. Thanks to everyone! Keep those donations flowing. Every £ 1 helps !

So many people to thank today… we had wood to collect from Mill End, ( last week we collected plants 🪴), pallets to transform into potting benches, loads of plants to get in the ground and water. Those who made it possible and collectively contributed to +40 hours today- Two D of E students, a family of 4 who popped in unexpectedly, Good Gymers- Jen & Shelia ⭐️, Sue organising the nursery, Offir help us collect the planks & reassemble them into a wonderful large table along with Martin and Tom. Superstar paddler Cécile ( super early start) Shoshan headed all the planting. Paddleboard Maidenhead for the boards & woman power -Tara ! So proud of our community. Thank you it was great fun. ( oh yes 🙌 Brownies Nivi. We still need loads more plants so keep dropping them off!
