We've been developing a 'before and after' EPC (energy performance certificate) package that includes a checklist of good ideas for Grand-designers and home improvers, to encourage people to consider improving the energy efficiency of their home alongside planning their new kitchen/loft extension or whatever.
It makes sense for people (only one lot of upheaval and a more comfortable home afterwards); for the planet, because the best energy is the kind we don't use; and on cost too - only one lot of scaffolding for example.
This was our home 13 years ago, and yes we did put solar on while we had the scaffolding up. Best thing we ever did.
