We are the “craftiest” bunch you will ever have the pleasure of meeting

It was a freezing cold weekend in November, way back in 2017 when a handful of strangers met in a marquee in The Diamond, Magherafelt to embark on a marathon weekend of selling their makes at the local Christmas Market.

Looking around that marquee it became very clear indeed that there was an abundance of very talented and local artisan crafters. Where had they all been? Some were faces only seen for the first time - how can this be when they were only a stone's throw away? Surely they wouldn’t disappear only to reappear at another fair down the line somewhere, sometime. These people needed to be given a platform to be recognised and revered for their talent, hard work, dedication and representation of the local community.

After short discussions, in Jan 2018, the local council assisted in spreading the word to gather local crafters together with a view to establishing a support forum and dedicated platform to promote local artisan crafters/makers. The demand was overwhelming and it was quite apparent that there were a lot more crafters far and wide who could benefit from this newly-formed community.

In Feb 2018, Mid Ulster Craft Collective was born and the following months saw a series of exclusive Makers Markets, the creation of a constitution for the Collective and the establishment of a committee - to assist in the growth, support and awareness of the Collective, and the year was aptly brought to a close in November by a much larger and more successful Makers Marquee at the Christmas Market - only this time there wasn’t a stranger in sight!
